Add to Cart Not Working

When a customer clicks Add to Cart on any of my products, an error message appears.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

@GooseCreationStudio: What error message and how do you know this?

Be careful that it is not a scam attempt. There is official information from Etsy at https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000343128-How-to-Handle-Spam-and-Suspicious-Messages?segm...

New shops, and particularly incomplete ones (no about, policies, etc) like yours are very attractive targets to scammers.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

My daughter checked out my listings.  When the add to cart button is pressed, it takes her to an error.  However, when she clicks on the photo, it allows her to add to cart.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

Is the wording of the message you received the same or similar to the one this OP also received today?

Solved: Re: Technical issues - Welcome to the Etsy Community

Yours is probably another scam attempt.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

Not a scam - it was my daughter.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

@GooseCreationStudio

Was your daughter in your house, using the same computer or another device that would use the same IP address?   If so, then it's not an error.  Sellers cannot purchase their own items, so the system prevented the order from going through.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

IP address isn't the issue. To the world your router only has one visible IP address even if you have multiple computers with individual addresses connected to that router. While your browser caches your Etsy logins (or any login for that matter) so subsequent pages opened remain logged in to your account, simply opening an incognito page lets you act with your site like a non-logged in user.  Similarly, different people can use different computers in the same house at the same time to access Etsy, and only the browser session logged in will prevent 'buying your own items'.

I routinely - on the same computer I am logged in to Etsy with - open a different browser and without logging in there, add items from my site to a cart.  It's the only way to check if checkout is functioning, or what Etsy is displaying when your customer hits the cart button.  I really can't see the need for Etsy stopping add to cart for shop owners.

A smart site would realize the items added belong to the owner, allow the ADD but prevent checkout, and empty those items when the browser session ended.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

@luxcrafter I'm probably wrong about the exact reason then.  But there have been reports that orders did not go thru because the buyer was in the same household.  I'm truly curious then as to what it is that prevents a buyer, using their own account but under the same roof as the seller, from completing a purchase?

eta - I see you added to your post and I think my question was answered.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

It’s very strange - if she clicks on the Add to Cart button she gets an error, but if she clicks on the item photo it is fine.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

To the OP - answer the question posed by @TheVintagePineapple - was your daughter in your house trying to add items to cart?

I had no problem adding an item to my cart.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

Did you click on the item photo or the Add to Cart button?

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

There is indeed an issue.

The error occurs when you click 'Add to basket/cart' on the shop home page (not in the listing page).

Error Message: Uh oh! You have encountered an error because you may have either signed out before submitting a form, or followed a bad link.

This button is new on the shop home page - I expect Etsy have some bugs to iron out.

(tested using Chrome/Desktop)

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

I clicked the add to cart button on the listing page, I don't have an add to cart button on the home page.

Re: Add to Cart Not Working

@vintage4creations

Neither do I , bet it is yet another Etsy "test". I hope this is not rolled out permanent as my items require measurements and I can see someone seeing the picture and buying without reading moreso than they do now!

@DaniBsPhillyTs: "When I try it myself ..." Because you cannot buy from yourself.
