Hello! My shop a star seller and I’m about to lose that status because Etsy says I have an 85% message response rate, but I’ve responded to every inquiry very promptly (usually within minutes).
how do I appeal this? I can’t get in contact with anyone to fix this mistake.
Are you replying to people you purchased from who say thank you, all incoming new messages whether from buyers, sellers, spammers, or duplicates need to be answered or marked as spam.
You need to download a CSV for your messages to see which ones have not been counted.
There is no appeal.
Note that any messages received within the last few days of a month will not be counted towards your Star Seller metrics for this month.
Better luck next time.
there was a solution and it's been fixed.

Thank you- this actually fixed my problem. I didn’t know spam messages counted as needing to be replied to since it wasn’t an inquiry or even comment at all related to my shop. Now I'm aware of this annoying technicality. I marked it as spam and it returned my response rate to 100%.

as a starseller, you have direct access to the Etsy Chat on the lower right corner of your dashboard, (on laptop)
It's a round blue icon, with whire chat symbol.
Click it, and you will be connected to the chat.
Ask them to tell you exactly which messages you missed, (Or download the CVS report and look for yourself) and then decide what you want to do about them.
Anything marked as spam will not be counted against you, but hurry, today is August 30, and it needs to update over night.
Chat does not work for everyone.
@DREAMROOTdesign: As suggested, check the applicable CSV file available on your Star Seller page. When you look at the file remember that that the dates / times are in UTC (not your time zone), only the first message of a new incoming thread is included (all that counts for Star Seller), and usually a new incoming thread is not included until after the 24 hour reply window has passed regardless of when you replied. There is also a link to the actual message thread so you can verify if the data is correct or not. Keep in mind that the Star Seller metric is NOT all new messages but only the first message of all new incoming threads.
"how do I appeal this?" Unfortunately Etsy has made it clear that they will not manually adjust Star Seller stats. However they have sometimes been able to correct errors in the underlying data and then the Star Seller stats will auto update (but not retroactively).
Star Seller is a joke. First, it's unfair to small hobby sellers who do not sell much. 80% of the time when I do qualify, the link to share it to social media NEVER showed up where it's' supposed to. Every time, all I hear from Etsy support is it is a known problem and they're working on it. Nothing ever gets fixed. Totally useless if I can't even share it.
PS. It has never made any difference in my sales either.
I've wondered if it makes a difference or not. I'm a very small shop & any boost in visiblity is helpful.
It did take them a while for them to tell me I could just mark it as spam. I was reminded about 5 times to respond to every message within 24 hours (which I have a history of doing without fail minus this one spam message).
Maybe the spam thing is common knowledge that I was unaware of idk.
