I had a new pop up in my messages about using the AI writing tool. Since I don't want AI anywhere near my business, I clicked the X. The conversation box where I needed to type in my message immediately changed to one that said AI assistant. I clicked out of it, just to have the pop up window appear again. The pop up window blocks half the message text box so you can not see what you are typing in. I finally typed in my message without clicking the X to remove the "use the new AI writing tool" message and sent it to my customer without being able to review my message. Please disable this so that when you click no, it goes away.
Haven't sent a message for a couple weeks, but I agree! I do not want AI writing my messages!!
Seems like they are turning the whole place over to the bots : (
I had something similar happen when I was trying to write a message about a custom order.
I'm not sure if it was AI (probably was though because I didn't recognize it as anything I wrote) or snippets gone wild. It took a bunch of fiddling to get rid of the pop-up.
I'm fine with Etsy having tools but they need to be intentionally selected by those who want to use them, not imposed.
I want to do my own writing. I want what I write to be my own voice. In particular, I want to make sure that anything I write regarding custom requests is mine. I have decades of my own experience with glass creations. AI can't compete with that.
Unable to write to customers or attach samples of anything because it gets deleted by the AI messenger. If you try to copy and paste on the message it automatically pastes it at the end of the message. No way around it. I can't cancel the writing tool option no matter what I do.
So... you can get out of the message section, go another section and come back to complete your message. Wish I could send a vid.
For some reason, I am not seeing an A.I. Message bot in my Etsy Messages (which is fine by me:) I've written some Messages to Customer, and answered when they wrote me. I also temporarily used the Auto Reply this weekend, when I was at a Show. But so far, I'm not seeing anything about A.I. written Messages.
I don't have it yet either, but I saw a write up about all the new updates and they said this new feature was only for a select group (of guinea pigs?) before rolling the feature out to everyone. They obviously have work to do on it.
Yup, that's the new thing I have to work around... sigh.
yup! another way etsy is trying to control OUR businesses!! so aggravating!
Etsy is becoming cumbersome to use. I mean, much more than usual.
I agree. Setting up images is taking longer with all the adjustment tools. I want to drag & drop images and I can't seem to do that anymore. And the "helpful" AI with titles is actually slowing my whole listing process down. I would like to be able to shut it off until I am ready to do a final review.
Oh the irony of a handmade platform becoming dependent upon AI and forcing its creators to drink the Flavor Aid. And whatever happened to keeping commerce human?
Thanks YinVivoWeddings for the solution! I went out of the message section and when I came back in it was gone!
Glad to help. Probably the best way to opt out... I usually have something else to take care of instead of messaging which I usually do... afterall, I have a website and this Etsy shop, if Etsy really asked sellers to opt into testing AI I've a feeling most of us won't want to
i just came here to see if there's a way to opt out or shut it off since i had the same issue with clicking the 'x' only for it to keep popping up, blocking 1/2 the message box.
The same thing started happening today and Etsy won't let me opt out. I start writing my message then A.I. takes over and keeps putting exclamation marks at the end of my sentences.
The only thing that worked for me was to use one of my pre-written messages. Thankfully that is all I needed.
And ETsy FYI, the AI generated Message you wanted to force on me was dripping with insincere cheeriness and was about 4 times as long as what I needed to say. People don't want to read pointlessly long messages. Period. Why are you making it harder for our buyers (who are also YOUR customers, besides the Sellers) to just BE on Etsy?!
Have you ever watched any of their videos? I'm pretty sure it's required for Etsy employees to drip with insincere cheeriness, and also to take 4 times longer than necessary to say something simple.
It is an insult to sellers....Etsy obviously thinks we sellers aren't able to compose our own messages to buyers....
It should be a choice if some want the help and others don't.
super duper! i got the same "helpful writing" intrusion....
the customer (after many back and forth messages) and when i sent a tracking number, said :
"Thank YOU!!!"
to which, my response as a normal human would be the exact response of "you are welcome", or maybe if i'm feeling brief would be "you're welcome". i know, super crazy human tone!!!!
but no.
to my bewilderment, etsy AI suggested this as a possible (un)reasonable reply:
"You are most welcome! It truly makes my day to know you're happy with your (widgit) purchase. I hope they bring you lots of enjoyment and fun! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you ever need anything else. Penny"
no. etsy AI thinks the response to "thank you" is an entire paragraph making the seller appear to be a completely needy pychopath.
Unbelievable.
I have the same issue! Endless loop of "you absolutely MUST use AI" Or you can't see what you are doing.
Happened to me today. Same annoying loop. I was able to end it by refreshing the page from the browser.
Agree... direct customer communication is not an area we need AI. Product titles is also not where we needed AI... my sales tanked after applying Etsy's strongly emphasized AI title suggestions.
OH MY GOD
HOW DO WE TURN THIS "FEATURE" OFF?
This is so, so terrible. People who cannot craft a sentence in conversation maybe should not be interacting with the public by running a business?
It gives me another reason to leave this platform.
I'm so disgusted with the recent changes that are supposed to be time savers that I'm asking myself if fighting with the Etsy tools is really what I want to be doing. (I do like selling my glass on Etsy but the fun is being drained on a regular basis). I know I'm only one of millions so have no illusions that Etsy will miss me. (although I know some of my customers will).
Just imagine the Etsy of the future - maybe near future - with a majority of sellers remaining who like their AI tools. I suspect it will look kind of like Temu or Shein. Maybe that's what Etsy wants.
