A woman from Germany purchased a piece from my shop, and only paid the fee for shipping to the US

Jump to solution

My shop lists only Shipping to US prices, since in 14 years on Etsy I have only sold anything 2 times to locations overseas.

I sent the buyer a message, telling her exactly how much she now owes me (I had wrapped the package and taken it to my PO and gotten the exact shipping amount due). I did not hear back from her, so today I sent a follow up message. I also told her she can cancel the order, if that suits her. If I don't ship the piece today, Etsy will probably punish me in some way - not help me.

What to do? Truth be told, I would rather not sell out of the US; is there someplace on my Shipping Profile where I can state this? This is unfamiliar ground for me.

Thank you all.

Just cancel the order and tell her you cannot ship internationally to Germany due to packaging laws.

It looks like you have worldwide shipping set up at US shipping prices.
I changed my location to Uganda, and you'll ship there for $14, the same as to the US.

You need to look at your shipping profiles, and uncheck "everywhere else."

Yes, cancel and refund the order.

Make sure your shipping profiles reflect US only if that's where you sell.

There is no way to make a buyer pay more than what Etsy showed them after the fact. And most buyers will be turned off by a note that they owe more ... and probably ask for a cancellation/refund.

Plus, to ship to Germany requires that you're registered with one of the recyling services.

And you have no seller protection if your policies are not EU legal.

If you're not prepared to sell internationally, just cancel the order.

If you don't want to ship outside your own country you must delete the shipping line "everywhere else" from your shipping area (listings or profiles), it is added automatically.

Thank you for your wise input. I don't believe that I ever set up my shipping policies correctly, nor did my young assistant at the time. I find all of this confusing.

A favor - can you please check out my Shipping Profile (I altered it) and tell me if it reads correctly now?

A million thanks.

Double check that listing/profile to make sure it is set to US only.

Thank you so much - I thought I already had a shipping profile - is it me or does Etsy make these things overly complicated??

Thank you SO MUCH for your help - I believe that I've done it correctly - would you be so kind as to check for me? I find all this so confusing! I can draw, paint, match a color exactly! but I admittedly have a problem with situations like this.

Sorry, @worldlyandwise  but it's still shipping to Uganda for $14. I'm looking at the triangle necklace.

Push the shipping date out a few days then push CANCEL. Do NOT refund then cancel. The first one has a 48hr review window after the ship date. The second allows a longer review window.

@worldlyandwise we can't see your shipping profiles. If you use profiles go to your dashboard>settings>shipping settings then scroll down and click the edit "pencil" by each profile and look and see what countries you have allowed and make any needed changes. Then SAVE PROFILE at the bottom.

@worldlyandwise

It is still hit & miss:

The Turkmenistan Kaftan is only delivering to the USA.

The Fishnet Leggings are still shipping worldwide.

The Oversized Playboy Vintage Sunglass Frames are USA only

The Native American Fringed Shirt and Pants Set ship worldwide.

Lawrence,

I am baffled. Just where exactly did you see that the Leggings and the Native American suit ship worldwide?????

@worldlyandwise

Open the buyer listing page in a browser,

click on "Deliver to . . . ",

you will get option boxes for country and zip code,

click on the country and look at all of the other countries listed in the dropdown.

(avoid changing the delivery country, the setting is sticky and is remembered for all listings you look at afterwards. If you change it you need to manually reset it)

@worldlyandwise
I'm still seeing items that ship worldwide.
If you have shipping profiles, you can check the profiles to see if you have "everywhere else" checked.
If you don't have profiles then you'll have to go to each listing or use the "quick edit" feature.

Triangle necklace, fishnet hose, silk jacket, native American outfit all ship worldwide.

You can see this on your listings by clicking "deliver to the United States", then clicking "country" and it shows a drop down of ALL the countries you ship too.

I also noticed a lot of your "fixed" shipping is really expensive or doesn't seem right.
$20 to mail a brooch or white lace collars from NY to NC.
Even Priority wouldn't cost anywhere near that amount.

Then $20 to mail the 3 porcelain birds which have to be a lot heavier than a brooch or lace collars.

Then you have $14 to mail a jacket anywhere worldwide?
