400 Bad Request Error

Hi All,

I am frequently getting a 400 Bad Request Error only on Etsy. Every other website I visit is fine. The webpage that comes up says this:

Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.

The browser tab (title) says "400 Bad Request". I am on Microsoft Edge browser. I have researched this issue and have cleared history and cookies etc. I'm convinced it's Etsy as this is not happening on any other website for me. 

It started about 2 weeks ago. I am a conscientious computer user who runs antivirus Defender and Malwarebytes and never clicks on sus links and virus websites etc. I am sure my computer is fine and has no viruses or trojans (I scan frequently and scanned with these two programs today, which had 0 viruses etc). Can you help? I seem to be getting this Bad Request a lot, like every second page load now. It is very bad when making new listings, I have to make them five times over. Also, shopping turned into a huge exercise with this issue (I attempted to buy something and took a long time with lots of browser refreshing to complete the transaction). It would be deterring many buyers who have this problem.

Maybe it's me, maybe it's you. I would love some help! There seem to be some recent new forum posts on social media about this same issue too, so others would find any answers useful as well, to clear this up...

I'm still having the same problem but only on Etsy.

It's not you. It's Etsy. It started for me about two weeks ago and got continually worse. Last night I couldn't even buy a label on Etsy and had to go to PirateShip to do it. Today I can't get anything done. Bad Request, Error messages, the red bar continuously, and the save box lightened so I can't even save my work. I also got Bad Request TWICE when I came here to the forums to see how many other people it's affecting!

It's not my browser, internet, cookies, cache or anything else. I'm not changing it all again. It's Etsy. My husband thinks Etsy is having a server problem. It's full, so to speak, and they are going to have to get a new server. I don't understand all that stuff but I wish Etsy would at least let us know that they are taking care of this! My main shop is Etsy. I guess I'll work the rest of the day on eBay and hope I can get something done here tomorrow!

And before I go, what about the customers?! What's happening on their end?!

Yes, you would think that they would see falling traffic/sales stats and get concerned enough to fix this issue asap.

Yes, I'm having the error get so bad that Etsy is almost inaccessible for me (eg., occurring 25 times while adding a new listing).

My internet company asked me to check Etsy on my phone, and my phone seemed OK. So we might have to temporarily use our phones until this is fixed. Very frustrating.

I don't believe in coincidences, and there are two many Threads/posts coming up with the subject "Bad Requests". I don't know if she is still here, but the Admin in Tech. Issues was ampersay. I wonder if someone could "at" her. If Sellers are having "Bad Request" problems, you know that Buyers are as well. And obviously they will bolt if they can't shop or check out with ease.

F.Y.I., my Shop is On Vacation, so I'm not experiencing Bad Requests (listing, etc.). I've been browsing with no issues (so far; desktop computer, Chrome, Windows 10). But like I said, I don't believe in coincidences.

@SoulStonesAustralia  It's not just Chrome and Edge - I'm using Safari and have the same problem. It's an Etsy server problem.

I try using Firefox and dont have the 400 bad Request Error. You can try using Firefox, it works fine with me. Since yesterday I never had any Error when listing on Etsy

This was a constant ongoing problem months ago. I was hopeful they had finally fixed it but I guess not??? Etsy has been nonstop error messages for me lately. Struggled forever just to buy my shipping labels earlier. Now I'm getting an error message with a red banner every time I try to access my payment account on my laptop. Such a headache...

Using Chrome on my desktop. I can't do anything without errors. Etsy fix the problem it's been at least 2 weeks and every page I click on has a problem. Your a hot mess and how are customers suppose to buy if they are having the same problems.

I was looking for Admin ampersay's avatar. But at the top of Tech. Issues, there is an Announcement from Admin thatregina. Maybe it couldn't hurt to alert her as well, about this Bad Request glitch (because that's what it has to be).

In my third week of this 404 error, red drop error, cant bring up my items nor other sellers w/out a 404 error, cant put items on sale, can't share on Etsy app to social media. Called support last week and supposed a ticket was created. I feel Etsy is aware of this. Perhaps goofing in test mode. Its really impacted my sales as Im 73% down. UGH

it seems Etsy have hired some terrible programmers lately. the website has a lot more issue than before. I don't have any issue with etsy webpage, especially the backend for seller before. But now, it has tons of problem. I developed and building websites since 2001, I know what will happen when you have bad coders for the job!!! Hope they get it fix and get better people do the job!!

@PandPF  we are reporting it. The forum moderators can see all the posts. The Etsy help desk can't do anything to solve the problem! They will just tell you they will escalate the problem!
