Hi All,
I am frequently getting a 400 Bad Request Error only on Etsy. Every other website I visit is fine. The webpage that comes up says this:
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.
The browser tab (title) says "400 Bad Request". I am on Microsoft Edge browser. I have researched this issue and have cleared history and cookies etc. I'm convinced it's Etsy as this is not happening on any other website for me.
It started about 2 weeks ago. I am a conscientious computer user who runs antivirus Defender and Malwarebytes and never clicks on sus links and virus websites etc. I am sure my computer is fine and has no viruses or trojans (I scan frequently and scanned with these two programs today, which had 0 viruses etc). Can you help? I seem to be getting this Bad Request a lot, like every second page load now. It is very bad when making new listings, I have to make them five times over. Also, shopping turned into a huge exercise with this issue (I attempted to buy something and took a long time with lots of browser refreshing to complete the transaction). It would be deterring many buyers who have this problem.
Maybe it's me, maybe it's you. I would love some help! There seem to be some recent new forum posts on social media about this same issue too, so others would find any answers useful as well, to clear this up...
Same problem here. It took several attempts to get a new listing up in our shop today. It was a nightmare.
Bad requests got to the point i cannot do anything right now. I will have to take easy, getting too frustrated. Sometimes I can’t find my own listings.
I have been Having the same Issues for Days now getting very hard to work and Frustrating, My son works on computers gone clear through mine done all the things above mention to know help.. Hope it is fixed soon. Trying to list and go through inventory and Very hard to do anything right now and has been that way now for a few days
Oh my giddy aunt, thanks for telling me to report it, been dragged through fire, called a liar in not so many words, it’s me, it’s my own fault, there is no error.
Hi All, thank you to all of the people responding to my post and to all of those reporting it in different ways. It's still not solved for me yet, but hopefully the tech team at Etsy can do something with our efforts.
I did get someone on chat that took a look at my screenshots and I also sent her the link to this thread. She said she's sending it to tech. I hope it's fixed soon. It seems that each day it gets worse and each day my sales go lower and lower. If I was a buyer and experiencing this, I would not be happy.
I would be shopping somewhere else if I were a buyer...sales are way way down so this type of system problem might be the reason.
Same problem here. I'm afraid to renew or put up a new listing. View is very low today as well.

Hi All, the Bad Request error seems to have been absent for the past 40 minutes for me. Maybe Etsy fixed it?
Nope, still there
OK, well it seems to have gone for me. What I did in the past 2 hours:
1. Cleared all history, including cookies and cache of the browser (Edge) for 'All Time'.
2. Attempted to run updates for Windows.
3. Cleared all history again.
4. Restarted computer. Browsed internet for an hour on other sites.
Not sure if any of these actions helped, but 400 error on Etsy is gone. Not even getting it once. Let's hope it's gone for good
Cleared my history for today, it didn’t work, so I cleared it for today and yesterday and it worked! (Fingers crossed)
That's great! Fingers crossed here too.
I'm having the same issue. At first I thought it was because I needed to update Chrome but after updating, clearing my cache, logging out and logging back in...same problem. I will try clearing my cookies. This is super frustrating and putting me behind! I'm not sure if buyers are seeing it on their end...I've been getting tons of sales the past few days so I hope it's not affecting them. I hope Etsy figures it out!
I couldn't get anything done today! It's getting worse! I just reported it to Etsy through the Chat. I recommend everyone report it because it doesn't seem to be Etsy-wide, only some of us, or else there would be more screaming about this on the forums. Be ready with a screenshot.
To contact Etsy:
Go to your dashboard. Community & Help. Contact Us. Selling on Etsy. Get Help. Manage My Shop and Listings. Manage Listings. Still Need Help. Chat.
Probably explains the lack of sales. Customers arent going to keep playing with a site to get what they want.
Went like you said and followed your steps not seeing anywhere to chat. Just a link click on technical Issues and its says to do all the things I have done and if that does not work to report it here. I see no chat help at all
Not sure if this is related to the 400 Bad Request but....I was checking on a few of my listings and noticed some of the variations did not show a price at all. Some showed the correct sale price in brackets ( ) and another variation on the same listing same option variation had nothing...just the title to the variation which was a size. Anyone else see this tonight?
I am so glad to know that it is not just me. My Mac uses Firefox as a browser. I literally just set up my shop here within the past few weeks. I feel that I have to enter my shipping option first as that is the biggest "spinny spinny cycle of death" which, if I uploaded everything prior to that section, would result in lost time because I basically have to enter the listing again from scratch. The other section would also be uploading pictures that has big issues.
ETSY....come on! Please take a look into this!
That's what I figured out too. First check the shipping to make sure I am not getting the spinning circle. Then if the coast is clear, load a picture. Fill in a few requirements in order to save it and then save it real quick. Go back to try to finish. Add a couple more pictures. Check the Save box that it is not lightened and quickly save again.... It's a miracle I got anything listed.
Hi All, the 400 error is still not showing anymore for me, so it seems to have been fixed on my computer today for 8 hours now. I would only be guessing, but if Etsy fixed it and everyone's computers still had the older cache and cookies, they would still show the error, so don't forget to clear browser history/cache for ALL TIME and cookies. I ended up signing myself out of all the websites etc. Full on cache clean (make notes of passwords first, if needed).
I had to clear my history, cache, and cookies about three times but it seems all of the error codes finally went away. Fingers crossed!
I just did as you suggested and it might have helped; won't know for sure until some time has passed, but as of right now it seems to have worked.
Also, I discovered what update most likely caused it: it was their change to the shop front icons, top right. As soon as I completed the above, my icons changed. I too now have DEALS and they have reorganized my favorites.
@SoulStonesAustralia Thank you so much for this tip. It worked for me! I cleared everything for all time. What a relief!
