Let's talk packaging and presentation

How do you package up your signs? cello? kraft paper? cardboard?
Do you add labels to the backside? Tuck in a business card?

For my frames, I order in custom boxes (expensive! looking for another resource for boxes, but Canadian, so I can't get free boxes ) I put a label on the backside, include a business card, wrap in kraft paper, then wrap cardboard around and include a note. This all goes into the custom box. I feel it's wrapped nice and looks professional.

For my canvas's and wood signs, they are all wrapped in cello, have a hang tag on the backside, and include a thank you note. Then are wrapped in cardboard and kraft paper.

Looking forward to hear how you package your work :)

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

I have only mailed 3 packages... but I wrap my wood signs with colored craft paper, tie a ribbon around it with a handmade thank you card attached, I also send along a business card. Then I wrap the whole thing in bubble wrap. I use a card board box that my husband custom makes for me and tape it up. I print my mailing label off of the computer at home and attach:)

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

I've only had 2 sales so not much experience here but I've wrapped my wood signs in parchment paper and then in a layer of bubble wrap and then in brown shipping paper and tie that with twine and a thank you tag. I just ordered stickers with my shop's name, so I'll add that on the outside as well. After all the pretty packaging, I wrap it in another layer of bubble wrap and then ship it in a custom made box.

Donnie, what technique does your husband use for making the boxes? Did he find a tutorial online that you could share? :) Thanks in advance if so!

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

Ok.....I ship out several signs a week and this is what I do. I buy packing paper off ebay, and wrap it in that first. I tie it with a ribbon or twine of choice with my business card, then wrap all of that in heavy bubble wrap. I use the USPS Priority boxes which are free, and I send them in those. :)

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

Hey Jessica! Yes we did look up a tutorial online... not sure how much it helped him and I do not remember which one it was. This is what he does.. He takes a recycled box at least twice the size of the sign we are trying to send. Next he lays the sign on the cardboard with at least 3 inches around the perimeter of the sign. The final piece of card board will be double that size to allow for folding the box. Fold the card board to form the top and bottom of the box. The 3 inch overlap is used to form the sides. The sides are held together with packing tape. I hope this makes sense, obviously I am not very good with writing instructions down:)

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

Ah cool, thanks Donnie! I did something similar but had to piece the sides on separately, going to try that method next time! Have you guys shipped anything as large as a 22x32 sign with that method? I'm hoping it survives! :)

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

I use large bubble wrapped envelopes. I include a thank you card and my card. So far this has been ok. The shipping is reasonable this way.

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

Does anyone know where I can buy small stickers with my Etsy shops name on them? I have tried stamps to put on the back of my signs, but it smeared. So I am looking for stickers for my shops name on them to place on the back of my signs. Thank you all. All of your sign shops look so good.

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

Hi Judith - I purchase all of my marketing materials (business cards, stickers, etc...) from Zazzle.com. I pay $9.95 per year and get everything shipped for free. They have a ton of things to choose from (too many really - but it gives you a lot of choices).

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

Jessica, the largest I have sent in the mail is 13x17. But if I did send one that large I would send it the exact same way:)

Hey Judith! I bet Vista Prin.com. can also make some stickers for the back of your signs. I made my own on the computer, they are very simple and just ok... my plan is to get some cuter ones from Vista Print.com or I will look into Zazzle.com :)

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

Judith, I just ordered stickers a few days ago from Moo. http://us.moo.com/products/business-cards.html

They seem to get really good reviews on their products but are little more pricey then some!

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

I love hearing the different ways you package and ship your signs.

I've tried a few different ways of packaging. I've finally come up with a method I prefer.

I wrap the sign in bubble wrap (my signs are all tagged with one of those Mini Moo cards). Next I add a business card, postcard and a handwritten note. I wrap it in brown Kraft paper, wrap twine around it and tie another Mini Moo card to the outside. I recently bought a large roll of corrugated cardboard. I use packaging tape and this corrugated cardboard on the outside. The corrugated cardboard seems to add extra protection but is a lot lighter than using cardboard boxes, which seems to cut down on the actual shipping cost for me. I bought some oval shaped labels from Vista Print which have my logo on them and "Thank you for your business" which I put on the outside.

I'm paranoid about my signs arriving damaged, so I print my own "FRAGILE" labels and put one on each side of the package.

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

Judith, I order my stickers off vistaprint.com. I just use the address labels and use those for my signs. But soon I'm going to use a branding iron I bought here off Etsy with my logo for the back of my signs. I can't wait to try it!

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

I use the USPS free boxes also and base sign size on what fits, I put a sheet of wax paper over the sign face to prevent any possible sticking and a few passes of bubble wrap from Lowes and done. I do tape the box extra well. I use a calligraphy marker to address the box

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

I am new here and I am finding these conversations very helpful! Thanks for all the input! I am not sure if there is a way to post pictures on here or not, but if there is, would any of you mind posting a pic of what your packages look like? Thanks!

Re: Let's talk packaging and presentation

I am new as well, and I am going to start using the free boxes from USPS, I have been spending too much on packaging so far!

I attach a tag with my business stamp on it to my signs.
