can someone else purchase when item is placed in cart?

There are several items that are one of a kind that have been in peoples cart. Does this stop someone else from purchasing that item?

I don't think so. I'm not sure but I think that as long as the item hasn't been bought, it is available for purchase (even if it's in someone's cart).
