International shipping

Hi everyone,

I need help with international shipping.  I started selling used sewing patterns last spring.  I usually mail them in a 12 x 9" manilla envelope.  For domestic mail it can qualify as a large envelope as long as it's less than 3/4" thick, which they mostly are, but for international it has to go as a parcel if it's more than 1/4" thick.  So I have been charging $16 shipping to other countries except Canada which I charge slight less.  It usually cost me about $14 in postage using the Etsy app or at the post office.

To my surprise I've still has the occasional person order a pattern at that cost, but this past week I've had two different people in Europe question the high cost.  I've noticed that other people charge closer to $6.  How do you do that?  What kind of envelope are you using?  Can you use Etsy shipping or do you have to go into the post office?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Rebecca

Re: International shipping

I don't know about US rules with lettermail, but up here in Canada I can send patterns (or any paper) as lettermail if its under 2cm and 500g. Perhaps there's something like that in the US.
