Social Networking for our Etsy Shops: Tips and Questions

Jump to solution
Instagram, Wanelo, Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, etc. So many sites, so little time.

Which one(s) do you use? Do they work well for you? How do they work on your tablet? How much work is it? Have an issue? This is the place!

Teresa Connolly from CRAFTYCREATE says
Wonder if anyone can help. Hope this is not too daft a question. I added my item to wanelo and can see the etsy URL for it, now how can I get the wanelo URL for my item?

Teresa, does this link help?

About halfway down, it mentions a "bookmarklet." Is that what you mean?

I use Pinterest most of the time. Every now and then I will tweet or retweet, but honestly, I cannot imagine anyone clicking on or opening all of those tweets. LOL!
I have no trouble with either the iPhone or the iPad on social media.

Oh, I do have a tumblr and instagram. I started a tumblr page, but I have no idea how I did it. Never use instagram, but I'd like to.
I did have snapchat for a minute, but couldn't figure that out either!

Can you tell I need help!?

I'm like you Deb, I mostly use Pinterest! I like Instagram, and have a Facebook and Google+ which I'm enjoying now I've figured it out (mostly!).
I have a Twitter account but I don't have much love for it to be honest, I don't think it's my thing!
Using the iPad/iPhone makes it almost too easy to upload and share to multiple accounts, it's a serious time saver!

Love this team. I use mostly Facebook, and Instagram. I'm still learning how to program my mind to remember to post on Pinterest. I believe it would have the most traffic.

Deb, I've used Tumblr, but I find that no one likes to devote time to clicking links.

I use facebook and Instagram primarily. I used to use tumblr but I found that it brought me no traffic and I could not keep up with a blog at the time. I find that tumblr is poor for finding new things. you seem very restricted to most popular posts and whoever you follow. This summer I will be starting a blog though! Lets hope this works out!

Deb & Kate, all I use is Pinterest... I have a page of upcoming (vintage) items in my shop. When I research, I pin my finds in there. When I go to list, it is all in one place. I delete them when they are for sale in my shop.

Joanne, why do you delete your pins once they are live?
If you click on a pin, it takes you to your sale link, in Etsy, then they can purchase it.

That's a good point, Deb... the pins are all other similar items to what I have. I place them there mostly so I have a reference when I list. I made it public and call it my shop's upcoming items, which it is.

After I list them, I pull it, because it is in my shop now. I have a link to my shop there on the page. Here it is:

https://www.pinterest.com/PlantsNStuff/etsy-plantsnstuff-upcoming-items/

So, should I be marketing my shop items more? I just feel like this page would clutter up and I couldn't find my research when I needed to.

I guess I could start another page for listed items, huh. Delete it from that page and put the new listing up on the new page? And put a link on the research page to the page with active listings?

Thanks, Deb, I appreciate it!

I use Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter. It can be really time consuming to constantly post on each one. But I discovered aroundio.com, which is a tool for online sellers to manage their social media accounts. I think the fee is $10.00 a month. But I find that it's definitely worth it because it saves me so much time and I get a lot more traffic to my shop 😉

At the moment i am only using Twitter, and I find that it makes a huge difference with the traffic. I dont use facebook nor do I even have a personal facebook but maybe getting one for my etsy shop would be in my best interest. It seems all companies have one. Hmmm

This was a great thread this subject is a topic of interest to me

What do you do when you can no longer follow anyone on Twitter ? Im thinking of starting a blog to try and get more Twitter followers.

I also made a pinterest and i absolutely love it ! I usually end up looking up stuff that interests me than promoting haha. Lately I look up abandoned homes.

I'm not a fan of twitter. I use facebook, however it doesn't always play nice.
My tablet won't post new listings to Facebook but my phone will.

I use Instagram a lot a like it.
Also use Google+ a bit and get the most traffic from it.

I use facebook, but I have to use my laptop to do it. I have an iPad, but no iPhone. I notice more traffic after my facebook posts, and I have made sales on facebook, so I will keep doing it.

I am just starting to use Pinterest. I have a lot of followers but really don't know what I am doing! Is it important to have a business account?

Janet, I found an article, Pointers for Using Etsy and Pinterest Together

1. Open a Pinterest Business Account

Etsy sellers are often artists, collectors, and craft makers. So it may be the case that they think of themselves more as individuals than as businesses. Nonetheless, on Pinterest, Esty sellers need to open business accounts. As Huff points out in his book, there are many advantages to having a Pinterest business account, such as promoting your business name, and it is a requirement in Pinterest’s terms and conditions.

“I don’t know anybody who has had their Pinterest account closed down [because of] hawking their new product line” on a personal Pinterest account, explained Huff, but “as Pinterest grows…they will get more and more stringent with their guidelines.”

Setting up a business account is fairly easy, at business.pinterest.com.

I LOVE IFTTT!

I have it set up so that any time I post a new item to Etsy, it automatically pins to my Pinterest board of my products, sends a tweet with the image, and adds an image to an album on my Facebook page. I joked in a podcast interview about my shop that I consider IFTTT my virtual assistant! It's so helpful and because it is automatic you don't have to worry about taking the time to tweet, pin, and share.

Here's a way to see people's Instagram pictures on your PC without an account. My brother sent me the link to his kids' posts through this website and it worked. I don't know how to do anything with it, though:
