Hello :)

Just a quick introduction! Im Steve and I've just taken the first steps into making a business here on Etsy designing and making fantasy and geek culture badges and cuff links etc...a friend of mine who designs custom shoes on here advised me to find a team of like minded people for advice and support!

So here I am!

Any tips for a total beginner? Common mistakes? Things to avoid?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Steve

Hi Steve -

I'm new here too. It's nice to find like-minded folks in this sea that is Etsy.

I do laser cut science fiction and fantasy inspired items.

Re: Hello :)

I'm also new on Etsy and the learning curve. Love Science fiction: Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Star Wars, Star Trek,... name it and I have seen it.
I work with Hama beads, love the things I can do with it. For me it's just the fun for doing things.
@interstait: I love you laser cut designs.

Re: Hello :)

Hi Steve and all others on this thread!
I've favorited all of your shops 😊
I'm Noel. I make full sized fantasy inspired artisan brooms.
My shop WIZARD BROOMS just opened a few days ago.
I also have a shop that has been open for several months on Etsy called Wizard Glass Fusing where I make fused glass jewelry.
Just joined the team yesterday.
Will look forward to seeing everyone's shops!

Re: Hello :)

Hi everyone! I'm new here. My family and I are big sci-fi, fantasy, and horror fans. We were referred to etsy by a friend who sells her hemp creations. We make metal jewelry and art pieces inspired by our favorite shows and books. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone here works on, and I'm glad to find a community of like minded artists. :)

Re: Hello :)

Hi, I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to introduce myself. I'm a geeky atheist who is fairly new to Etsy. Inspired by a friend that I met at the INR5 conference who has her own Etsy shop, I started to make a few items for myself (ammolite hair clip, dinosaur bone earrings) and a small business blossomed. It's only been a few months but I am having a lot of fun. Glad there are more geeky people on here :)

Re: Hello :)

Hello everyone, we started to use our Etsy shop a few months ago, we make different things but being also passionate about Science Fiction (especially Star Trek) occasionally we create something relative to what we like most, and more recently we decided to try to put some of these creations for sale.
We are from Italy, unfortunately we do not speak English very well but we hope we can understand each other with the help of Google Translator! :)
We are very happy to have found this group and be able to participate!

Re: Hello :)

Hi everyone! My name is JoAnn. I had a store about two years ago that I let fall to the side because life got in the way (2 year old and bought a house). I'm now at a stable place and wanted to make a go of it again but switch what I wanted to make to fandom based things. I make. Little bit of this and that with plans for other things too. My store is called the Geeky Side of Life.

Check us out at: https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/TheWoodCoAU?ref=hdr_shop_menu

Looking forward to exploring the shops of all my fellow nerds!

Re: Hello :)

Hi all,

Another new seller here! Loving looking through everyone's shops. We just opened a shop called TheWoodCoAU after having been customers here for ages. Selling laser cut giftable items, a quick scroll through our shop is pretty much a summary of my nerdieness..... Doctor Who, Chemistry, anything science, sci-fi or fantasy! At the moment we have a range of bookmarks and drinks coasters, but hopefully soon will be able to begin creating cards, wall art, chess sets etc.

I have heard (many times) that you should do what you love, find a way to get paid for it, so you can love what you do! That has become my philosophy in the last few years. While I still have to work the 9 to 5 for now, I am focusing my free time into growing Tubular Treasures.

Now, for the name, which I'm sure some people are wondering about. I'm an 80's kid and I LOVE all things 80's and retro (ESPECIALLY NINTENDO). I was trying to categorize the things I make without pigeon-holing myself for the future, which is where I got treasures (encompassing trinkets, keychains, jewelry, figurines, etc.). There ya go... Tubular Treasures was born; it was almost Like Totally Tubular Treasures, but that seemed a bit much ;-)
