So one of the things that I learned a while back when I used to sell my art on Ebay was how important Keywords are to your selling success. This is another huge tool in your arsenal of selling techniques. Strategic use of them will most definitely help to increase sales and bring in the target market you are looking for. So here's a quick overview and my thoughts on what I've learned over the years. I am definitely NOT a key word expert but I've learned a bit along the way and I'l share a few thoughts on the subject. Etsy gives you a section in your listing called keywords. You are allowed up to 13 key words to help generate potential buyers to your shop. These words are what Etsy's shopping market seach engine uses to bring up listings when shoppers are looking for certain items. This also is what Google and other search engines use to generate their searches as well. So it is very important that each key word you use is carefully thought out and planned. Here are a few techniques I try to use when I'm coming up with Keywords for my listings. 1. Think like a buyer This is probably the best advice I have on the subject. Pretend you are looking to buy your own product and start typing in the etsy search. See what comes up. Look at the listings that come up because these are your competitors. Does your product seem to fit into the category that is coming up on the search? If not then you may want to rethink your keywords. 2. Next look at the keywords of your competitors listings. See if there are any words they are using that might be applicable to your product. Take a look at your competitors shop, and look as their number of sales. Do they have 5000 sales and they just started their store in 2014? Then you really need to look at their keywords and the entire store in general because clearly they are doing something right so try to see what is different about their shop from yours. Are their photos amazing? What are the keywords they are using different from yours? You can see their keys words at the bottom of the listing. I know that some people get huffy about this because for some reason they think they have a right to the key words they come up with. I saw one person carrying on in another team about the fact that some one had used every key word in their listing that they had used and that should not be allowed. Well key words are not copywritten and you have every right to use any keyword you want in your listing. You have just as much right to same exposure as anyone else on Etsy. You pay your listing fees the same. Just because you didn't reinvent the wheel doesn't mean it's wrong, it means you are thinking smart. If you have a good quality product that you have created that's what is going to ultimately sell your product. 3. Make sure you all of your 13 keywords. Utilize every word that you are allowed on Etsy. Make sure to include the color, style, season, holiday, occasion in your keywords. These will definitely help to target your potential buyers. OK I think that's about all I have on the subject, what are some other ideas and strategies you have used when coming up with keywords?

Hello everyone! This post is for team members to post up to 5 items they would like for me to review and curate for the Pinterest Holiday Gift Guide. Please don't just post and run. We are trying to create an active supportive team for other Sewing Based Shop Keepers to be a part of. If you haven't been active in a while but want to get involved here at SEW HAPPY We would love to have you here. Let us know that when you post here. If you just post 5 items and run, I will NOT be including them in our gift guide. It won't be hard to figure out who the these folks are so just don't do it! It's really not COOL. Thanks again to every one who wants to be a part and get involved. So who is going to be the first to post?

So I am not surprised that sales dropped significantly right after Christmas but I was wondering if there is a pattern of selling throughout the year? Anyone who has some experience have any imput? Should we expect to see an increase as Valentines Day draws closer? I would guess that different holidays are also more profitable for shops depending on what they sell. I am hoping that Father's Day will be a good holiday for me since I sell Men's Ties! Let's brainstorm...on how we might capitalize sale trends through out the year.
