I just got a question from a potential buyer who asked if I could find custom fabric make him a bow tie with it, and get it to him by Friday or Saturday with a DISCOUNT! SERIOUSLY? I told him it would actually cost more money because I would have to overnight it to him through the PO.

Ummmm, It's Wednesday and this is for Friday or Saturday.... You need to run to complete this order. If he is willing to pay and you think you can make it, go for it. This is kind of tricky because you want the business but there is so much you can do. The holidays are coming so I think that last minute orders/requests will increase. Good luck!

Definitely no discount! Sounds like it would be very tight. You have to find the fabric, make sure it is the fabric he wants, make the bow tie, package, and ship it, all by Friday (at the latest). It would not be unreasonable to not only charge extra for the shipping, but also charge extra for the rush custom order.

While I hate to pass up business, I also don't usually have time to put together something in a rush. I probably would have offered him a bow tie out of the fabrics that I currently had on hand, and if he didn't like any of those, just pass. Or, If I had the time to run out on a whim to search for a special fabric, I might be so inclined to do that, and then charge a $20 rush order fee...but seriously, the fact that he wanted a discount on a custom rush order is nuts!!

I know right? Well he asked what it would cost with a rush order and I told him...he never wrote back! LOL
