What started your Pyrex obsession?

Hi All,

I just recently came across a Primary Refrigerator Set. This was the first piece of Pyrex I bought for my collection.

I was just wondering what was other Pyrex loverls first piece? Or most favourite piece?

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

My sister got me started. I love bright colors. I have 3 of the primary mixing bowls and 3 of the New Dots. I'm also collecting Daisy and Friendship and I have a few other bright pieces that I love. I used to have a much larger collection, but I have narrowed it down to the pieces I really love.

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

My first pieces of Pyrex were a four-bowl set of blue Homestead when I was a new bride back in 1978. I no longer have either the bowls or the husband, but I was hooked on Pyrex's beauty and durability. We'd also used Pyrex in my home when I was growing up, mainly the covered refrigerator dishes. Right now, my favorite pieces are a four-bowl pink Gooseberry set that's in my antique mall booth (I'll cry when it sells) and a 403 blue Rainbow Stripe bowl in my own kitchen.

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

Ah. My mom loved it and when I moved out I decided that I wanted to have a kitchen full of Pyrex.

Even though I make colorful and kawaii accessories and jewelry, I like to put anything that is brightly colored in my shop. This allows me to send Pyrex off to a good home because I have no more room :)

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

My first vintage pyrex piece was the primary refrigerator set, similar to the one that I listed above. So, the original primary colors will have have a special place in my heart. Although, I do have a weakness for Gooseberry and Snowflake Garland. I bought a Garland Cinderella bowl recently, intending to list it. But it never made it up to my site!

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

My Pyrex love started with an aqua butterprint butter dish. It recently sold in my Etsy store....I was sorry to see it go, but I haven't used it since moving to FL (too hot to keep butter outside the frig).

I have quite a few of the Butterprint pattern items in aqua and other vintage housewares in aqua...I'm considering a color change...yellow! A whole new set of Pyrex patterns to explore and appreciate!!!

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

My first piece (I only have 3 so far!) was a bright yellow round casserole dish that I found at a thrift store. I fell in love and decided to start collecting!

Jeni Baker. I began following her blog, In Color Order, and I fell in love with vintage Pyrex. I stumbled upon my first piece at a local Flea market on May 24,2011...a mint condition margarine tub in Butterfly Gold.

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

I have bought and sold a few pieces of Pyrex on Etsy and also locally on Craigslist, mostly because I knew they were desirable. Now, all of a sudden, I'm becoming slightly obsessed with them myself!

I'm painting my kitchen a shade of green, so I'm set on starting a collection of Pyrex in the solid verde / avocado green.

It's a new obsession. :)

Best,
Melissa

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

My grandmother got me started into Pyrex. She had several pieces... mixing bowls, cups and saucers. When I visited her house I used to love to eat my cereal from the smallest yellow bowl from the set of mixing bowls. I have always loved them. My very first purchase was with her at a garage sale were we found a complete Primary Refrigerator set. I was so happy to have one like hers. Pyrex always makes me think of her. Probably why I like it so much!

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

I got pyrex for wedding shower gifts back in the early 80's
a few years ago I broke a lid for one of my pieces and went searching for a replacement, that led me to picking just a few pieces at the thrift store and discovering the online world of pyrexia
it kind of snow balled from there
never did find that darn lid... and now that I realize that I dishwashered the crap out of my old gift pieces, I probably won't bother
I've got new pretties to use and take proper care of

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

When I was growing up I remember going to Corning to go to the museum. My mom still uses the pieces she had when we were growing up. She just gave me a red clown mug that we used to drink cocoa up. That piece means the most to me.

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

I grew up with it in the 80s. My mom had a lot of it and passed it to me when I moved out in '94. I've always loved it cuz its so durable and reminds me of my youth. Its only been this year that I discovered how collectible it is. I love it!

Re: What started your Pyrex obsession?

I just love the simple and functioning designs of it all and of course every color of the rainbow too! I grew up in the 80s too and was given a pink set of bowls when I moved out, I used them till recently till I found some more vintage Cinderalla bowls that I just love too. I received several pieces of the "newer" corning ware and pyrex for wedding and shower presents in 1999, but to be honest they don't seem as durable as the older models from the 60s and 70s.
