I don't have many sales anyway but when I have a sale for free shipping it decreases my profits specifically if it's international
I have had a couple of glitches where Etsy has allowed free shipping upgrades, and even free shipping to France resulting in zero profit. Etsy Support is almost never available.

Do free shipping for domestic only
I couldn’t agree more. I don’t offer free shipping and I won’t. I sell quilting cotton fabric which has a small profit margin already and shipping for free even if it were only one yard of fabric would automatically put me in the red. It’s been suggested to increase my prices however that’s totally unfair to my customers as well. Since I ship flat rate priority mail my customers pay the same whether they order one yard or ten. Which makes it less to pay shipping after 2 or 3 yards than if I raised my prices to make up the difference.
Truth be told Etsy is barely and I mean barely worth selling on anymore.
with shipping costs going up, the natural follow-up is that prices have to be raised to counteract that......years ago we could do the pay per click and end up number one and google which resulted in a lot of sales.....the only way to make sales is to be found by your customers, so repeatedly showing your site on social media like your facebook page etc. will help get the word out with little advertising costs...you just have to figure a way to get yourself found.....very recently I made a new item and on my facebook page I showed it and said it would be a great present to chase the winter blahs away and I made three sales within the hour.....figuring ways to make yourself known is a constant operation and seo marketing is such a haphazard thing and too expensive to get into for small shop people.......
with so many places offering free shipping, you probably will not make many sales without it, so price accordingly......
I personally will leave items in my cart indefinitely if I have to pay shipping. I asked around and got similar responses from friends, family, and customers at trade shows. Everyone is aware that we raise prices when wrapping shipping cost into the final cost of goods, but there is a mental block in place that makes people hesitate, which is the last thing you want. Just the other day I purchased an item for $55 when someone else was making a nearly identical item for $25. Why? It cost as much to ship the item as it did to pay for the item. Yes, I ultimately paid the same amount, but again it's the psychology of the sale. Part of me felt sure the more expensive item was of a higher quality. They ended up being the same price, but it didn't matter in the end. The one who wrapped in the shipping cost is the one who got the sale.
Here's the thing about that..if you don't offer the free shipping, your listings go to the bottom... I might as well quit if my listings nose dive. Etsy suggested raising prices. I actually lowered the price on a few items, where they would have to order more to get the free shipping. Does it work? I don't know. Revenue is up this year, visits; views, orders, and conversion rate are down.
My sales have gone down since I rolled the shipping cost into the item price. Not sure if the higher price scares people off, or what. I was suspecting, as someone else posted, that my listings would go to the bottom if I didn't offer free shipping, but it's not working out like I had hoped (and how it sounded when they launched it).
