How to glaze solid figures?

It's easy to glaze jewellery, I can hold the eye pin with pliers and coat the whole thing. But I recently made a spherical figurine (A Cacodemon from Doom) and I couldn't work out how I could glaze the whole thing in one go, as I read glazing part of it then getting the last bit once it's dry can make it peel. Any ideas?

What kind of glaze do you use? I use Fimo gloss glaze and sometimes I glaze one half of something first, and then the other, and finish with another coat that covers most of both sides. Haven't seen any peeling before but I make sure the coats are thin because I heard peeling can happen if the coats are too thick.

I think that if you hold it for one horn and glaze everything, and then separately the horn, there won't be much of an edge left that could become a problem.

Re: How to glaze solid figures?

Hey, thank you for the replies. I use sculpey gloss, with sculpey iii clay.

With holding the horn, I then have to set it down somewhere to dry too, which means it will have the smush of whatever surface I dry it against

Yesterday I attempted glazing it and I plonked it on some blu tack so I could access as much as possible with the first bit of varnish. This morning I woke up to an awful ring of dry gloss which I tried to gently sand away so I could do the final little bit, but you can still see the faint ring. :/

Re: How to glaze solid figures?

I bought Sculpey gloss once but I had some problems with it including the glaze staying tacky on my pieces, thickening and eventually drying up in the bottle while I still had half of it left. Sorry to hear it formed a dry ring! Was it thickened in your bottle too?
