I hope the link worked. It was actually shared on another discussion in the forums. But it was mind blowing for me. I had always ticked the little box to change my titles for my pattern listings and then painstakingly (sometimes as a detriment to what I was selling) revise my titles to less than 70 spaces. I will NEVER do that again.
The most astonishing part of that article was not that they truncate the searches to the 70 +/- characters, but that they use the ENTIRE title in searches. This is a definite game changer. I do not know about you, but my pattern sales have been a bit lacking lately. And I feel horrible because I had always suggested to my fellow pattern users to decrease their pattern titles to this 70 characters. I was wrong. And I apologize to any of you that had followed my advice. Truly, I apologize.
Well, crap! I got a lot of work to do...and assume others might be in the same boat.
Happy Christmas selling season to all my fellow patterners...or is it, patternians?
I don't know that I'd heard of the 70 character limit before, so that was news to me anyway! LOL
But what I have always heard is to not have a repetitive title and to avoid keyword stuffing, so that often limits what is going in my title anyway. I just double checked that on Google and found this:

where it says:

So between what you found and this, my feeling is balance. Don't make your titles too lengthy, but if you have more useful info, don't truncate them for no reason.
Thank you for sharing this! I'm always up for learning more SEO.
Thanx, @funkydreamsmosaics. That will take me a week to read all that. But it is stuffed with lots of info.
I definitely agree with not using the exact same titles, but simple tweaking to the titles are good for me. I read an article some time ago that the duplicate of the titles is not really that big a deal for us small sellers. Google is not interested in us small fries. But I still tweak them just a little to differentiate them.
AtMemoryLane....I have over 300 items in my Etsy shop, so I plan on using the same titles in my Pattern shop. I do have periods after each “segment” in my titles, so I think that makes it easy for the customer. I understand them, so other people should as well. I would rather concentrate on adding inventory anyway. So my pattern website is pretty much a clone of my Etsy shop, but it will eventually have much more inventory......😀
What's your pattern shop? Which theme would you suggest. I'm giving this some serious thought. Any suggestions? Thanks
