Pattern Help

Hi,

I am hoping you can help!

I currently use Shopify for my website but I am thinking of moving to Pattern just because of the simplicity of the both managing the website and back-end admin ect.

Am I mad for making this switch? Anyone currently use Pattern?

My current website is: www.alongsstory.com

I would greatly appreciate anyone's advice!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Pattern Help

This is (a slightly edited version of) what I recently wrote on another forum thread:

Pattern is simplistic.  That has both good and bad points.  For the good, it's the same back end, so you don't have to keep track of your inventory in other places.  You list a new item in one spot, it automatically is in the other. Your orders are in the same place and fulfilled the same way as your Etsy orders, so nothing new to learn and nothing extra to do.  You really don't have to spend a whole lot of time maintaining your website.

For the bad, you can only do so much with Etsy's templates and lay outs.  You don't have a lot of control over your website design. You will find it much more restrictive than Shopify.  I realize Shopify has so many options as to be overwhelming sometimes, but Pattern has so few options, it can be frustrating sometimes!

Also, keep in mind that Etsy has made no improvements to Pattern in years, so know that what you get is probably all you'll get.  And Etsy Support sometimes is helpful in Pattern issues, but often seems clueless.

Is there anything you like about Shopify that Pattern won't offer? Is it worth giving that up? Pattern works well for some sellers.  I'm just trying to give an accurate portrayal of it.

BTW, love your flowers!

Re: Pattern Help

Thank you so much for your reply!

It is really helpful!

Do you use or know anyone currentlyusing Pattern?

I know it is simplistic but for me the biggest pro is the back-end.

I am just worried whether the support is there from Etsy… it is hard to get a responsefrom them during the best of times!

Thanks again!

Re: Pattern Help

I use Pattern because I just don't have time. I haven't needed much support but I have been able to get things resolved quickly when I did contact them. funkydreamsmosaic has pretty much covered it all.

Re: Pattern Help

I have used Pattern since 2017 for most of the same reasons as @beachartz, no time. It is a substantial part of my income now. I purchased my own domain that I can re-direct anywhere if something were to happen to Pattern or Etsy so I feel it is not a waste of time, it's still building my brand.

Re: Pattern Help

I migrated mine from another site. I still maintain my domain registration and site email from there. I can take it anywhere as well. I think that's important to have that control.

Re: Pattern Help

I've just moved mine from Shopify to Pattern. Like you I just didn't have time to manage two lots of listing and the apps which sync stock between Etsy and Shopify added quite a bit to costs for a small business. I still found that most of my orders came from Etsy. I considered just getting rid of my website and relying on FB, IG etc but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Just browsing this forum I found a mention of indiemade.com who will sync their sites with Etsy so if Pattern doesn't work out I might take a look.

Re: Pattern Help

Hi. This is good because I'm in exactly the same situation and mindset. My Shopify site isn't doing much sales wise compared to my Etsy store.

I did try Pattern a few years back but closed it after six months as I didn't get a sale. I'm thinking re-opening the Pattern website but with a more specialised inventory than my store (selling dog feeders only). Is this something I can do or does the inventory have to be the same for both?

Re: Pattern Help

@lolaanddaisydesigns you can sell whatever you want, as long as it isn't on Etsy's prohibited items list.

Keep in mind that you still have to bring in your own traffic, just like on Shopify.

Re: Pattern Help

Yep, I wasn't sure though that if I changed the wording of a listing on the Pattern site or deleted some of the listings would this also change on my Etsy store? My raised 'pet' feeders are my main seller and are targeted for cats and dogs but I wanted to tweak the listings on the Pattern site to just be 'raised dog feeders' as I believe this will benefit my SEO as around 85% sales are for dogs.

I imagine when I set the Pattern website up again and publish it will then allow me to do this but I couldn't find any info as yet.

Re: Pattern Help

@lolaanddaisydesigns Yes, it's actually very easy to do.  There is a spot in the main listings page where you can make the Pattern listing (title and description) different. I usually try to at least change my titles.

Re: Pattern Help

Well I asked if it was working well for others.  I did get some replies - people are happy with their Pattern sites.  I have been working on mine.  Decided to go Pattern because I'm an older gal and all this technology is hard on my brain.  Pattern is soooooo easy!
