I noticed a similar thread, and I didn't want to get lost at the end of 6 pages of comments.
I use TurboCAD. It's ridiculously easy and I created instructions to set it up and use it specifically for designing sewing patterns.
It can be used for any size patterns, not just for dolls.
I did a lot of research before doing this.
