How did your shop name come to be?

I noted this discussion on another team's site and thought it would be fun to start here, too!
Just relate the story of how your shop name came to be!

Seeing as though I started this discussion, I should be the first to tell...

The name of my shop began even before there was an Internet! My grandmother (her real name was Ethel) loved to sew and collect teddy bears before they were that well loved. The Christmas of 1946 while her husband, my grandfather was aboard a Navy ship fighting in the South Pacific, she looked at her collection of bears and decided they needed to be dressed up for the Holidays. That was when she started designing and drawing her own sewing patterns for teddy bear clothes. Soon everyone in the family had complete wardrobes for their teddys and she couldn't keep up with the clothes demand from friends, so she started selling the patterns. To make a long story short, when she finally retired (due to arthritis) from sewing, she gave me her life's work of patterns. I promised to make the legacy live on and bring it into the 21st century. Ethel actually picked the name "Grandma Grizzly"...the rest is history!

Grandma Grizzly (Ethel) sadly passed away in November 2011.

Bear Hugs and Happy Sewing,
Roanne

Ours came about simple enough. When my husband first applied for our business license years ago, he was mainly gem cutting. So our last name & GemWorks:)

Indulgence - (1) I feel like I get to indulge myself when I create something with my own hands, (2) fragrant candles, sweet smelling bath salts, silky lotion, and baubles to decorate myself with...doesn't that say indulgence? :)
MJ - the M is the first initial in my name. The J is the first initial of both my parent's names as well as my daughter's name. I added the J because these three people motivate and inspire me the most.

My talented daughter named my shop. She is excellent in everything she does. So I guess you could say she is multifaceted.

My wife and I came up with the name. "sk" are my initials and we chose "world" because I like to travel and my photos are from different parts of the world, and also because my shop is a glimpse into my world.

We moved to the Pacific Northwest about a year and a half ago. Hence the Pacific Northwest. We mmake soap, thus the bath. I had Essentials tacked to the end, but Michael decided he didn't want the word essentials for some reason.

When we were in Florida, we were Gulf Coast (where we lived) Affordable Luxuries.

My shop's name is a play on my name, I'm named after Nanette Fabray, an actress born in 1920. I thought Nanette Crochet sounded kinda like her name, so I named my shop after her too.
Oddly enough though, there really is a Nanette Crochet and she lives here in Washington too. Thankfully, I don't think she crafts or I might get in trouble.

Re: How did your shop name come to be?

Well our shop name has evolved in the 10 years since we started. First is was Sisters of Soliloquy but everyone thought my sister and I were nuns at our local market. Then we switched to Splurge Sisters but it wasn't fitting our brands vision. Now we Two Blooms Design Studio which we came up with after several discussions. There are two of us and we feel our products are always evolving and the both of us are always bursting with ideas and the bloom of a plant represents new life and new possibilities. We are involved in every aspect of our business: the labels, designs, recipes, coming up with new scent blends, social media, wrapping, selling at local markets etc. So the Design part came from that. Also everyone in the West coast always says they created a new product in their studio and we too are always in our studio so that is how the full name came about.

Re: How did your shop name come to be?

My shop name came from an auto accident in Lincoln City, 1977, when I was hit by a 19 yr old drunk driver. The dreams I'd had, changed that day. After multiple surgeries and health problems over the last 35 years, I find artful expression helps alleviate some of the pain and tension in my body. Although my life went down a different path, I have been blessed with a precious family, a quiet coastal getaway in Washington, and the strength I have been given by my Lord, Jesus Christ.

My shops name comes from my childhood. It was the nickname my late grandfather gave me when I was very young & I've never heard it anywhere else in my life, so it just felt like me :-)

My sister and I started this business and my name is Karis and she is Dea. (Said Dee) And my nickname became Kay when my nephew was born. (Karis is a little complex for toddlers) So we got KayDea which kind of sounds like Katy.
And crafts because we didn't want to limit ourselves in our artistic endeavors. : )

Re: How did your shop name come to be?

ahh i have often wondered this question when i came across an interesting shop name...

i've certainly struggled with the name of my shop and threw out the original one i came up with very soon after opening shop. i have always been inspired by birds and i wanted a bird name to be incorporated but i couldn't decide on which one sounded really good.

"hillstar" came from one day, a year ago, when i was hiking up to the top of mount pichincha in ecuador. i was alone on the trail some 13,000 to 14,000 feet above sea level when suddenly this gorgeous hummingbird whizzed past me. it landed on a prickly bush nearby and i got to watch it for several minutes. this bird was the ecuadorian hillstar, and no other hummingbird lives at such altitudes. it's moments like this when i forget the rest of the world and marvel at the beauty and genius adaptations in nature.

so, long story short, i finally found a name that reflects that awesome inspiration i often discover in birds in the wild. :)

My shop name is named after my two "babies" my rescued dogs Abbie( featured in this photo) https://www.etsy.com/listing/109575507/photograph-art-black-and-white?ga_search_query=dog and Pablo ( Pabbie is his nickname). I though that is I ever had a shop I would name it after them.

Re: How did your shop name come to be?

Great thread!

Mine is less sentimental - I was trying to think of a name for my anonymous little bookstore venture on Amazon, something that started with an "a". I love the film Finding Nemo and the part where Nemo is trying to pronounce "anemone". I like how the word rolled off the tongue, plus I just moved to the PNW where sea anemones run in great abundance here, so I partnered that word with books and got "Anemone Reads."

Three years later, the name grew on me, so when I started my Etsy store for vintage books, I tagged on the "Vintage".

Still trying to figure out some logo where an anemone is reading a book.

Re: How did your shop name come to be?

My store name was a complete afterthought that I tossed off in the flurry of activity of opening up shop. It's basically just my name. My plan is to think of something clever later ... in my spare time. Here's a recent item:

Re: How did your shop name come to be?

My family used to have chickens when I was little. Apparently I'd chase them around, saying "bokbokbokbok". Anyway, when I was trying to think of a shop name, I wanted something fun, unique, and memorable. I was talking with my mom - not about the shop, just a regular conversation - and she brought up the chicken story, and I felt like "BokBok" fit. It's fun to say, and it reflects my personal history.
