Re: Questions a la Carte

how do you "tag photos" to improve google images search results? Is this based on what I name my photo when I save it?

Re: Questions a la Carte

When you name your images, always make sure to name them with keywords so search engines can understand what those images are.

I am going to take one of your images tomorrow and download it and re-name it and then put it on a website. in a few days when you search for the item on Google you will see it in the image search results.

Many people who look for products search on Search engines.

Re: Questions a la Carte

There is a ton of free image editing software.

Go To download.com

Look for " photoscape" this is a free image editor that is easy and fun to use. you can make animated gifs, and add effects to many pictures at once.

For drawing use " inkscape" ~ this free drawing program lets you draw like a pro, and did I mention it's 100% free?

Another good image editing software that is free is called " Gimp"

You can also edit images like a pro if you have Microsoft Publisher on your computer.

Let me know which one you like and I will send you a link to a training video that will show you how to use it.

( My husband makes training videos and reviews software on Download.com)

I went with "photoscape". I tried a few things out, really fun! Is it true etsy does not let you "tag photos"

Re: Questions a la Carte

Hi Diane,

I have been on vacation for a week !, sorry for the delay.

The program you mention would not help you that much, try Photoscape, remember it's completely free and easy to use

The program is from 2006 and technology has given us so much better programs

Do you have Publisher?

Re: Questions a la Carte

Hi Donna,

Posting your items on the forum or any other place is easy to do; just go to your store and click on the Item you want to post > wait for item page to load > copy the URL in your browser > Go back to the forum page and paste the URL in the content area.

Once you do this the item will automatically load the image of the item and the details.

This also works on Face book and many other locations.

Be sure to use social media to post your items as it will gain overall credibility and reach.

Take a look at my new post ~ Posting classifieds

Re: Questions a la Carte

Hi I am new to the team and have gained so much already reading e threads here, so much info which has lead me delving into a few other things Seo related so hope you could clarify something for me. I found info in another team sorry can't link to it as on my phone but the question was asked re does etsy change your file name when you upload a photo and the question was answered by an admin member that the answer was yes this is changed to an etsy file name. Now the question bit is i use Pinterest which allows Google to crawl its site but if I am pinning my items from etsy do they then have the etsy file name ruining any seo gained from naming the files for what they are ? would it be better to upload items i sell separately and add the link to my shop ? I have not been naming my files already as what they are and need to sort that out, thanks to you i am now aware of it .But just wanted to find the best way forward. Thankyou

Re: Questions a la Carte

Hello Anne,

Etsy does in fact change your file name, But that makes no difference (:

You see your image will be " Seen" by Google and other search engines who recognize images.

Let me explain in more detail ~

Google now can " see " Images, if you perform a Google image search you can now drag an image into the search and Google will find every identical or similar image listed on the net.

Your goal is to ":Train" Google what your item is by use of file names, ALT text and Titles.

Don't worry about ETSY changing your file name, concentrate on posting that same image of your products across the web to train Google that your product is more relevant to your keywords, The more you do, the better your saturation will be. You are a spider building a web, each time your put your product image out on the net with the right keywords, you are building a bigger net to catch potential customers, if your product's web is bigger then similar products, you will show up first !

Make sure to name your images of your products with the exact Title you are using on ETSY ( try to make it have keywords ) now even though your image file name has been changes on ETSY, when you post that same image all over the internet on social media sites and blogs, classified ad's etc... Google will then understand that the image is relevant to that title.

The Title of your products is what gets listed on ETSY ~ but you can not depend on only marketing on ETSY to make good profits.

The goal you want to reach is to have the exact image loaded across the board for your keywords. ( the title) you want to use underscores to name your jpeg like: This_is_an_example.jpeg so the Title would be " This Is An Example

(~Note the caps on the Title and not the file name)

Every time you post your image of your product on blogs and pintrest and everywhere else, it will get loaded on the Google search engines results for the title.

(:

Re: Questions a la Carte

Would anyone be willing to help me out by giving me a critique on my shop? I get lots of views (could always be more) but the percentage of those that convert to sales is just about zero! I really want to clean up my shop and make it a place that once folks enter, they look around and purchase!

Re: Questions a la Carte

I really love your shop , I love your photos, only suggestion I would maybe make is when I enter your shop through the front door and see everything it is a little busy and I am lazy and look at the pics rather than the title and I had to think what the items are as some of the prints and cards were mixed in with the signs, maybe as far as possible have like items across rows.
Some of your tags maybe need to be tweeked eg this item
https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/158627554/blank-photo-card-country-door-photo?ref=shop_home_active, has blank photo card in the title but not in the tags, if I was looking for a card that was blank I would probably search "blank card" or the Bride and Groom signs , if I were searching for something for the bride and groom I would probably type "Bride and Groom" in the search .

I hope that helps, I don't have many sales myself so in the same boat , but all the best with your lovely shop

Re: Questions a la Carte

Sorry, I am really new at this. I want to make sure I am doing this right. I have a white fresh water pearl and shell necklace for sale on etsy. I have my pictures saved on my computer. The posts above mention naming your pictures. Is the picture name in my computer the relevant name? I do not see where I name a pictire on etsy.
Thanks!
Joan

Re: Questions a la Carte

Please tell me if it makes a difference to being found if I copy a listing rather than renewing it?

I have mostly used copy because it allowed me to put it into drafts until I had a group of like item to publish. But once I found me on a search and when I clicked on my item I was told that it was sold so maybe I would like this other similar stuff at Etsy in other shops of course. I was not out of the item, so I figured I must have copied it, but no one would discover that I still had it from that click ushering people away from me.

That made me wonder if I am creating a lot of clutter by choosing to copy instead of renew......plus I have read others who seem to think that renewing that which is still listed has some sort of benefit that I fail to understand.

So could someone please explain if this matters to the SE and why one is better than the other? Work wise copy works best for me but I don't want to get lost over it. thanks

Re: Questions a la Carte

I am almost embarrassed to admit how difficult it is for me to understand how to use social media for my Etsy shop. I have managed a Facebook shop page and a Pinterest account, but now what? Reading books and articles still leaves me feeling I am not understanding what is behind social media. I am 84 years old, so maybe it is because I just didn't grow up using things like Twitter. Does anyone have a map I can use or is someone willing to be a guide?
