Welcome to Once Upon a Time...! (Introductions)

Hi, I'm Su. :) I wrote my first fairy tale 'newspaper' 4 years ago and it has since grown into a whole archive (currently being re-released over the present year) plus various 'related products', such as magic mirrors and FAYC postage stamps.

I love looking at old stories from new perspectives - most of my work so far is based on Brothers Grimm & Andersen - and having a bit of fun with them. It's all a bit tongue-in-cheek, but as anyone familiar with fairy tales knows, can also sometimes err to the darker side...

Please post a little bit about your shop & how it relates to the group themes. And thank you for joining! :)

Re: Welcome to Once Upon a Time...! (Introductions)

Hi, I'm Alexis, and I am a printmaker (linocut relief printing) as well as an Archivist (still in grad school). I am very interested in the darker fairy tales, especially the Grimm brothers, and I started experimenting with the different tales with my prints. So far, I've only done Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel and The Seven Ravens. They have proven to be quite popular, and I've completely sold out of my Red Riding Hood limited edition print (it was a reduction print, only made 14 copies). I am also obsessed with Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and do a lot of prints with that theme as well, but not sure if that counts for this group.

I'm on the fence re. counting Alice in Wonderland as a fairy tale; but at the same time, they certainly wouldn't appear out of place alongside the group's main themes, so you're welcome to post Alice items in the game/promo threads. Welcome to the group - you're prints are stunning!

Re: Welcome to Once Upon a Time...! (Introductions)

Hi, I'm Kyra and I work in Fairytale and Fantasy art. I generally pick one fairytale a year to flesh out, and this year is Alice in Wonderland (I do count it as a fairytale, even though it's not traditional Perrault or Grimm. I'm looking forward to a new selection next year, though.) I work in oils, acrylics, and watercolor for the most part right now (although I'm kicking around the idea of learning how to digitally paint.) I'm gearing up to release a huge new set of prints on Alice (and currently working on finishing my painting of Alice right now) as well as fairies and other fantasy work. I've fallen a bit behind as of late. (I post works in progress and new works on my FB page https://www.facebook.com/KyraWilsonArt if you want to see what's new, and hasn't been posted yet... but will be.)

In between working on Alice, I'm working on general fairies and unicorns right now, as well as dragons.

Hello, I'm Christa and my shop is "Tirra Lirra Studio". Much of my artwork is inspired by enchanted tales. Ancestry is a constant theme in my craft- I'm very much connected to my Irish roots and I love reading about old Irish superstitions and fairy stories. Aside from being a working artist, I also work with plants in a garden center, which has happily proven to be very inspiring.

Hello everyone! Thank you much for inviting me to your group. I'm Michelle, and I'm a witch. Don't worry, I'm not the wicked variety......well mostly ;-) My shop is Wicked Treasure and I make hand crafted jewelry. Not all of my jewelry is fairy tale themed, but I have drawn a lot of inspiration from them. I too consider Alice in Wonderland a fairy tale of sorts. I look forwards to getting to know you all. I enjoy looking at everyone's art.

Re: Welcome to Once Upon a Time...! (Introductions)

Hi! Thanks for the invite :) My store is called nightsparklies and that´s the name I´m using for my art everywhere online. I´m a traditional artist in the sense of what I do, I draw and paint, but what I portray is often a bit odd, personalized and intriguing. I love to add poetry to my art and am heavily influenced not only by fantasy but also by both norse, celtic and overall germanic mythology. I grew up in scandinavia and to me trolls, fairies and dwarves are just about as normal as cheese on bread. Most of the time I don´t do any direct interpretations of known mythological/fairytale creatures or figures, but things like elves and dragons reoccur in my work all the time. One of my favourite stories off the top of my head would be about the kelpie. :)

Hello and thank you for inviting me to this group.
I am a needle felt artist. I make fairies, angels, realistic animals as well as fantasy animals-unicorn.
I am well acquainted with Grimm's tales as the mother to a Waldorf child. I used to buy and sell vintage fairy tale books.
I'd like to create more fairy tale characters and I am toying with the idea of illustrating a fairy tale with my creations.

Re: Welcome to Once Upon a Time...! (Introductions)

Thank you for the invite, this is my first team!!

I'm Louise, and I run Nanuk Designs alongside my jewellery shop, Nanuk Jewellery. I use a lot of fairytale inspiration in all my work, especially the illustrated fairytale books I grew up with (I have also recently started making lots of dragons, I'm currently a bit obsessed with them....!). I opened Nanuk Designs because I love to draw and have recently gotten back into working with polymer clay, and I wanted a place to showcase them in their own spotlight away from my jewellery so I can keep doing them. I am also working on some cards, and would like to be able to get some proper cards and prints made for some of my drawings in the future but I am testing the water at the moment to see what people think of the items I have so far.

I love fairytales, myths and legends, so I look forward to exploring other members' shops and seeing what everyone else is working on!

Re: Welcome to Once Upon a Time...! (Introductions)

Hello I'm Jenny, I'm not a fairytale artist as such, but I have always been heavily influenced by fairytale and folklore from around the world. I have a number of illustrated Grimm's and a couple of Hans Andersens, as well as a couple of collections of Russian fairytales. I love Eastern European fairytales. I grew up with four of the Andrew Lang coloured Fairy books, which I still own, and adore.
My work is not all fairytale based, but often inspired by literature, and usually features word play, character and concept. I trained as an illustrator, because stories have always played a big part in my influences, and I still love to create work with a narrative.

Re: Welcome to Once Upon a Time...! (Introductions)

Hello Fairy-tale peeps.- thanks for the invite My name is Apryl and I have been in love with Ancient Egypt and fairy-tales since I was a child. I own tons of Egyptian archaeology books as well as every fairy-tale book I have ever been able to get may hands on. I make Ancient Egyptian inspired jewelry and I write fairy-tales - published to a separate website. I have recently been fascinated with leaf photography - taking pictures of the leafs high in my magical oak trees while laying on the ground at their base - from that distance they look just like tree fairies and gnomes.

Hello everyone,
I am Caitlin and I am a graduate of art school in Bournemouth, England and also have training in the magical arts. I combine my love for art with the healing crafts and make bird nest sculptures which have been charged with fairy magic. I also make dreamcatchers and talismans. Sometimes I include my drawings and photography in my shop as well. I am influenced by fairytales, mythology and dreams. I am constantly searching for my own personal myth and this shows up in my work. I post about my process on my blog and on my fb page. erdasfountain.blogspot.com

Earlier this year I started making jewelry as a hobby for Mother's Day but I really love doing it so I opened a shop here.
