Does it swing when they walk?

Ok does your cat belly swing back and forth when they walk? Possums belly almost flaps the floor. she not fat just where I had her fixed years ago. I am wondering how to get her to do crunches.

Also does yours let you rub it's belly?
Possum first cat that likes it that I have had. Had one male cat that would roll over and act like...Rub my belly then he tear your hand up.

Re: Does it swing when they walk?

Bob lays on his back, arms (?) spread out in one direction, legs spread out in another, WAITING for someone to rub his belly. Then you have to do it until he's had enough, which is only when the doorbell rings or his sister makes something crash to the floor. He never, ever bites. EVER. I've known two other orange tabbies (Julius is featured in a photo card) who BITE when you touch, or even try to touch, their bellies, but Bob just waits for it. Is he "easy?"

Abby could easily end up with the hangy-down belly, but she's on Weight
Management food. Embarrasing, yes, but she likes it! SHHHH...

Yeah possum is on the healthy weight stuff so he wont get fat. She is 10 years old. But it is like this flap of skin on both sides that just hangs down. Maybe I can get on Opra and get her to get Possum a belly tuck.

Maybe Possum should wear a summery tube top! (Please don't tell her I said that!)

Re: Does it swing when they walk?

Houdini loves to have her belly rubbed, but how she responds depends on what mood she's in. If she's feeling mellow, she just lies there and soaks it up. If she's in a feisty playful mood, she starts grabbing and biting and I have to slip a bunny kick toy into her grasp or I'd get the kicking, too.

I also use the mellow times for tummy brushing. With her long hair, it has to be done.

Re: Does it swing when they walk?

Of all the cats I have had and known (I am a former veterinary nurse), most do not like their bellies rubbed. The few who do are usually males and only if they know you intimately. My long haired cats were the ones who liked to lay on their backs completely spread out (like an otter floating in the water). I don't know why they did that or why short haired cats don't. Of my current babies, Fuzz is more nervous and does not like his belly touched. Sunshine, his sister, would let my 3 year old dress her up in doll clothes. Oh, the personalities!

My orange tabby Bob is amazingly trusting in the belly department. He's worried about a lot of things (unlike his sister), when when the mood strikes, there he is! I've had cats that roll and almost tempt you to rub their bellies, but Bob's just THERE -- like you say, fuzzandsunshine, like he's floating!

Both my boys love to have their bellies rubbed! Rory's only occasionally, though- when' he's in the mood. But Peat will climb onto your chest and flop over onto his back (trusting you to catch him) and lie like a baby in your arms, drooling, while your give him a good tummy rub. He's done this since we've had him, so his foster dad must have held him like that.

Oh, and yes, even though they're only a year and a half and are quite svelte, both of them have belly sway- Peat's is more pronounced that Rory's, though!

Re: Does it swing when they walk?

Bighairy bugs I think she read it might be why she left me a present in bed this morning. LOL

I found as I worked at a vets for awhile too that it depends on the procedure they use when they spay or neuter. If they leave them where they can see that is why they don't trust anyone with their belly. One of the vets in the office told me about this so when I had Possum and her brother done she put them well not to sleep but under so they would sleep.

Re: Does it swing when they walk?

Interesting! That makes sense, really. I guess Bob and Abby must have been totally OUT because they both think belly rubs are just dandy!

It does make sense. Houdini must have been "out", too.

Houdini's like Peat, though, in that she likes to be held like a baby and have her tummy rubbed.

Re: Does it swing when they walk?

My older girls love belly rubs. Lena will on rare occasion get her back legs going trying to scratch me away, but the way she does it leads me to believe it's because it's feeling too good, not that she necessarily wants me to stop because she doesn't move. Now Lilya, we haven't gone there yet because she is just waaaaay to busy to be still long enough, but she is getting better about it. :0)

This is so interesting. BillyBob LOVES his tummy rubbed...if I walk in his direction, he will literally flop onto his back, legs akimbo and waiting for his tummy to be rubbed! Of course, it is only when it suits him though. These stories are too cute :)

So true! BB has sometimes literally rolled across the whole room so as to get my attention for a tummy rub!
