I'm in Fitchburg---and since I have a home based business, I first had to go to the zoning/building department and get their approval ($25?). They will send a Zoning Determination Letter.
Then I went to the City Clerk, filled out a dba business license application (dba---doing business as)---paid $25, and then was licensed. The City business license is good for 4 years.
The next step is getting a Federal EIN number for Tax purposes.
