Shopify......yay or nay?

Hi all,

I know I'm posting this on an Etsy forum, but as a UK seller, I've been thinking for a while about sorting myself out with a stand-alone non-etsy online shop, and I have heard some really good things about Shopify.

Has anyone else used it? Is it needed? I want to make sure it's worth the $15 a moth fee before I commit really... so any advice gratefully received!

hi Charlotte
did look at Shopify a while ago but decided to stick with Big Cartel. They are fabulous, not perfect of course, but you can get a really good looking website using them. www.bigcartel.com
if you need further info, please do email me direct.

Re: Shopify......yay or nay?

I have struggled with web based things as I may have spread my self too much. Being new to the web based selling I have tried my own site, etsy, and the other obvious choice. I think I should have cracked one before moving on.
The result has been three higgly piggly burping belching unrefined ongoing attempts.
I must say I am not up to Lucy's slick etsy shop standards, but trying.

Charlotte I look at your product images and see you also have excellent work there...I am certainly the one with some learning to do here!

Feel free to ignore my comments, it is just where I have struggled.

Re: Shopify......yay or nay?

Thank you for your comments Janners, they are helpful! For me, the attractive thing about Shopify is the chance to have a shop without the .etsy.com bit at the end I suppose...I'm always being asked if I have a website, and I'd love to be able to say something other than "Well, sort of...".

Off to have a proper look at your shop now! x

Janners...thanks for your kind comments!
I think shopify is too expensive..don't they want a fee everytime you sell something as well as a monthly subscription?

My main selling place is my website. I have an Etsy shop because its very reasonable and easy to use. I don't sell anywhere else, though I have tried others.

Charlotte, you can easily buy your .co.uk domain (if its available) via Heart Internet (there are others of course).

Its worth buying it (and the .com version) even if you're not thinking of doing anything with it for a little while.

Re: Shopify......yay or nay?

Hi Lucy, yes my boyfriend has suggested buying both, it does seem like a good idea really... Talking of selling elsewhere other than Etsy, I have been selling lots of ebay funnily enough! At the moment I've only got my bridesmaid cards listed, but I'm doing really well on there. They are my best seller on here too, and I guess it's the time of year when people are thinking about bridesmaids...? x

I find ebay goes from one extreme to the other as though somebody is flicking a switch.
