Did you know?

That several of our members make it to the top ten of sellers in the glass category?

http://www.craftcount.com/category.php?cat=3&subcat=9

Might be some good brains to pick

Congratulations!

Re: Did you know?

The going price in the top few seems to be four bucks a bead.... sad...

Re: Did you know?

Well, I would be very happy if I sold my beads for $4 a piece. Right now I feel completely invisible. I know I need more product in my shop but never the less it is a bit depressing. I decided I would not participate in the Pimp your Etsy on LE this week because I wanted to see how many views I would get that were not related to that. Yeah! Well, a big 0. I guess I'll go make more stuff to fill my shop more. :-(

Re: Did you know?

Gabriele you're not doing all that badly, really! I've made as many sales in about 3 years as you have in 6-ish months~ I do get lackadaisical about renewing and promoting though, it all goes in cycles with me - Create, list, other stuff, and back again.
Some ideas for you~ I didn't read too deeply into your page but these things help with links & SEO~ You're prolly already doing a lot of this, but I am sure some team member will find the info useful :)

do you have a blog? You can set up an etsy mini link from your blog to your shop. I unfortunately don't have much to say on the blog as of late, chronic writer's block I guess. I converted my little-used Myspace page into a giant link for my shop, too. The more good quality links you have leading into your store the better rating you get on google and the other search engines.
A Facebook fan page is a good tool, too, specially since etsy makes it so easy to share on FB when you add a new item. I have my FB account linked to a twitter account, so when I post a new item to FB, it sends a link to my twitter account too - on less thing to consciously set up links to.

Your item titles look good to me, they have all the words you would wanna use for searchability that I can think of... I will share this though~ I was brainstorming with a colleague at my 'day' job to see if we could think of new keywords to incorporate on our site, try and think like your customer, what would someone looking for pretty things to wear type in? Your average shopper may not know all the terms that we as glass workers would use like 'boro' or 'lampwork', you get my drift! I was appalled that the word 'stuff' was being bandied around as part of a viable key phrase, since it was verbally beat into me in English class not to use that word, but we did some research & it was not a bad word to use in the right context.

File this next one under 'I need to take my own advice'. Type in those words you think shoppers may enter to find your shop, scroll to the bottom of the first Google page & look at the "Searches related to (your key word)' - These are commonly entered alternate phrases that you may find useful.
My last tip would be to relax and and fun with the whole process! I find I never make sales if I'm really pushing for it and getting frustrated that nothing is happening, but if I'm having fun making beads, having fun taking photos, and chuckling while I'm writing text, editing photos, the whole process is so much smoother and more fun, and I'm usually happier with the results! :)
I hope this helps you, and anyone else here!

Re: Did you know?

What a great post Threadspinner! Stuff, eh? Go figure that one out. I've had folks looking for beads who just use "animal beads" or "bird beads" with nothing at all about glass. There are still a lot of people who don't know how to pare down a search to what they're really looking for.

Re: Did you know?

Thanks so much for your response threadspinner! You've given me some great tips and I have been doing alot of reading up on tags, titles, and SEO. I think perhaps right now I just need to make more stuff and I think you are right about just keeping it fun and not worrying too much about views. If I enjoy what I am doing others will see that in my work.

I do have have my shop linked to my facebook page but I don't have a blog and don't know if I want to go there. All of that stuff takes so much time and I already have such limited time to work at my torch I don't want too many other things steeling torch time.

Re: Did you know?

Gabriele I hear that! I get a scant few of hours a week to sit at my torch - 1.5 a night if I really push myself and neglect all other household chores... and don't go on the computer... or make any other jewelry, or sleep, etc. ;)
Totally understand about the blog, like I said, I haven't touched mine in months (other than to delete old posts), and I think it only helps if you do it a lot - adding new 'stuff' to your shop is def'ly way more worth your time than putting time into a blog if you're not loving the process.
Lauren about that 'stuff' thing - I work for a firefighter gift company by day - the suggestion was 'firefighter stuff' - I don't know how it may fit into what we are doing as lampworkers and jewelers, was more of an example of a word I never would have thought to use to type in as a google search - I knee-jerk rejected it till I thought about it for a while... some companies were actually *paying* to show up with that word in google searches.... so I learned something new. it's always good to stay open to new ideas, hahaha! :)

Re: Did you know?

i did much the same thing, i asked a friend who had nothing to do with lampworking what she would put in for a search and it really surprised me

colours
shape - round, long, square, small etc
yes "stuff" - she said things like "beading stuff, jewellery stuff, girly stuff"

try to think outside of what you do, think of how somebody who uses your beads would think

Re: Did you know?

Color is used a lot in Treasuries as well, and those really do seem to help promote the shops and help with sales.

Re: Did you know?

Good to hear ideas from y'all about search- and using color as the first word. Another thing to add to my list.
I'm doing a lot of work on my shop right now trying to figure out how to be found again- yep, I seem to have gotten lost. If something works, I'll have to let y'all know! I did notice that leteam shows up at the bottom of the page as a search related to lampwork glass beads- so I'm making sure that appears in at least some of my tags and titles. Right now just a few things show up.

Re: Did you know?

Funny, the day I posted in here I had 0 views and the next day I had about 35 and they were not from teams or LE. It's almost like I dropped off the radar or something. Anyway, right now, I am happy with 35 views as that is about my average. My shop is next to empty with only 20 items and I am working on creating more stuff to add. Until I have a fuller shop I don't expect to get many more views than what I am getting now. I just don't like a big 0 that's all! :-)

I do find colour is good to use. I try to use it in my titles and my tags and notice colours are often searched.

Re: Did you know?

Just fyi- anything you would like to have your items found by in an etsy search should be in both your title and your tags.
