Does anyone know if using feathers on baby/children items is ok?

Thanks! :)

Re: feathers

Feathers aren't really safe for kids, and most store bought have dye in them which would require testing.

Re: feathers

Feathers are sterilized when made into bedding, comforters and jeckets. I believe they use Steam heat.

Anyways, they would HAVE to be sterilized according to law.

Re: feathers

CPSIA aside, feathers of birds of prey and some others are protected. Best thing to do is contact your state's Fish & Game dept. and ask. They'll know what's legal and not legal in your area as well as all the Federal regulations. Their website may also have the info.

Re: feathers

Almost ALL birds are protected... in the USA...the only feathers you can legally use outside of commercially raised....are rock dove (the city pigeon), European Starling, and the European House Sparrow. ALL others...no matter if you pick em up off the ground...are illegal to posess or use. And that is the US Federal mandate according to the Migratory Bird Act.

Re: feathers

certain feathers are banned by law but they are feathers that belong to say eagles hawks, owls and other bird of prey. but just a point I would never ever use real feathers for a baby or small child as if they are not cleaned properly they will contain bugs and lice and such.

Re: feathers

Please stop saying its only rapters and hawk feathers..because its nearly all birds in the USA. nearly all. Except for the commercially farmed chickens, white goose, pheasant (the pheasant is not a native bird to the USA), ginea hean, or peacock, and parrots...MOST other birds are not allowed.

Its a myth that its only owls and eagles that are illegal.

Re: feathers

As someone who uses thousands of feathers...I hope my items are hung high, because they are really fragile. I would not put feathers on something for a child...or a pet.
