almost everything I sell contains lead

Just so everybody knows My earrings do contain lead. They are embellished with swarovski crystals and they do contain lead and are specifically mentioned in CPSIA.

So my items are only for people over 12 years old. My earrings should not ever be put in your mouth.

Again none of my items are intended for children 12 years and under.

Also today is my birthday.

Interesting, the CPSC has posted a joint petition from:

Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America (MJSA)
Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA)
National Retail Federation (NRF)
United Dance Merchants of America (UDMA)

Apparently they're trying to get swarovski crystals and the like excluded from the lead ban.

This is just a petition the CPSC doesn't seem to have responded to it yet.

There's also a new request from ballpoint pen manufacturers because it's apparently impossible to make a ballpoint pen conform to the new rules.

So are you saying I can't have swarovski crystals implanted in the gold caps my 12 yo daughter wants in her front teeth? I can't afford diamonds. I'm not selling them, I'm not sure that one can say I'm donating them, as I am paying for them, but she's my family. Would they say that's a donation?

I just heard an extremly interesting/frightening segment today on MPR about how many chemicals are completely untested in the manufacture of plastics for toys/food contact products in our everyday use. It was really quite disturbing:/

If your printed papers and fabrics come from JAPAN, they probably are up to the current EU standards for both lead and phylates.

Japan's standards have always been similar if not the same as the EUs and usually better than the ones in the US.
(a kid old enough to do origami, is probably not going to suck on or eat the completed origami...)
