allowed materials - link

I want to share this link to the cpsc 's own site for small businesses/crafters regarding allowed materials, among other things.

Best to get your info directly from the CPSC.

Re: allowed materials - link

Do shops that sell onsies with a design sewn on it have to get tested? The onsies are store bought and so is the fabric. Wouldn't the stores already have tested the products?

Re: allowed materials - link

Anna, that's a great question. I don't have a product like that, so I haven't researched it, myself. If the onesies are 100% cotton, they are probably considered ok by the CPSC, based on the link above.

However, each seller should research and gather info for themselves. I am definitely not a lawyer!

For my plush, as an example, I am using cotton materials from a manufacturer from whom I was able to download and print testing results and certification. I feel I can sell these within the law.

Yay! I don't have to stop selling children's stuff! They are so much fun to make! I just have to choose my embellishments carefully.

Thanks for posting that link!

Keep in mind, the regulations are being reviewed and "clarified", so check the cpsc site once in a while to see what is happening.

Re: allowed materials - link

I just love it how they exempt electronic devices with accessible parts, but that can't be made with a "safe" lead level. So basically, you can have lead, and kids can have access to it, and they know nothing will happen. Because the lead scare scam is purely political. Just like mercury scares - now they want us to fill our homes with mercury-filled lights after years of mawing on about how dangerous mercury is.

I'm glad this is helpful! Always check on the gov websites for the info directly. Remember - things are "in flux" with this, so check again in a few months, especially when the first Aug deadlines/changes will occur, like labelling requirements.
