Just wondering if any of you who don't even create items for kids are worried about CPSIA law as I am.

Etsy has OODLES of children's shops. There are TONS of women who shop etsy looking for things for their children, then get sidetracked and end up buying say, um, JEWELRY for themselves as well.

When the law goes into effect and so many shops are forced out, won't that slow female traffic CONSIDERABLY here?

Am I wrong to be concerned?

And I am concerned for all those who use etsy as a supplemental and very necessary income who will be forced out! What will happen to them??!!! My good friend (MOMSBLANKIES) is one of them.

This all makes me so angry!

I know, cutsieclips. I do the same - if I earn a little something extra in my other shop, where I sell toys, I go looking for something for myself - jewelry, vintage... something I can't make for myself. And I did a lot of Christmas shopping on Etsy. I feel like they're taking away our right to choice. Not a good feeling at all...

Re: Why I am concerned about CPSIA law and I don't make kids stuff!

I know it may be a weird way of thinking, but I see parents of children who are obese pulling up grocery carts of Twinkies and bacon to the check out line. I've been in peoples homes who smoke all the time and the children living in those homes have to breath that air all the time. Yet I don't see any congress people stopping them from making unhealthy choices for their children.

But now I'm being told I can't make a decision for myself if a pair of hand knit mittens are safe? So have hand made items have a notice on them stating the "item is not tested buyer beware" and let me make a decision for myself.

Ugh, this issue turns me into a cranky person.

This issue has made me very cranky as well, I am just getting started in my business and after reading all of this new law stuff I am trying to figure out which direction I should take now. Here is what I got to thinking about though as far as this effecting every seller on Etsy: true about the traffic probably becoming less for other sellers if the children's shops close up but what about the aspect of their being even more shops to compete with as far as what you sell for adults. I mean, if sellers turn to selling things for adults instead of kids, is this market for handmade items for adults on Etsy going to become so saturated that it hurts everyone that way? Just a thought I had today......

I'm quite concerned about the effects of the economy. If all the major manufacturers have to pull their existing items I shudder to think what will happen to their prices for everything.
