whenever I feel a leading to speak out, even when it's not something that directly affects me (I don't make children's things--at this time) I remember the poem my Grandmother taught me about, when we were discussing her students going off to fight in Vietnam, and how your inner feelings shall be your guide when you have concerns for others:
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I was not a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.
For those of you directly involved in this fight, we are fighting with you, we know you have families to support and bills to pay, and we are standing with you.
