I did a TV interview on our local NBC affiliate here in Columbus, Ohio last Decenber. The reporter hooked me up with a gentleman in our Representative in Congress's office that had direct contact with the CPSC. Talked and emailed him every so many weeks. Even emailed him a copy of the threads that you all posted in that I thought he could relate to. But he and the rest are of the mindset that no child should be harmed. He asked me what if a child sucked on one of my rag doll's arms. Or how would I know that any wooden toy came from a tree that at one time had been treated. My doll was perfectly safe. But I think it is difficult to convince them. They have probably seen cases come to Congress of harmed children. None of us want kids harmed. We all agree on that.
But this CPSIA was allowed to happen without much thought. It couldn't have had much thought. They took manufacturers, importers, handmade, charities, thrift shops, and dumped them all in one pot and stirred. This law cannot relate to each of these participants in the same way. Not to mention the far reaching affects if we had a hurricane, fires, earthquakes, the economic situation, or just plain old everyday life. At some point, the government is going to have to call upon the "pot" for help.
So what is the answer. I truly believe their are smart people in this country. And creative ones. Hi, everyone! We have to reach out like we have never reached before. We are going to have to think like we've never thought before. There is an answer. We just haven't discovered it . . . YET!
I refuse to just wait. As I mentioned in another CPSIA thread this morning, I started thinking about things I haven't done. Those I will do. Let's grab this problem and give is a hard shaking. We can make it happen! I am thoroughly convinced of that.
