What has worked?

If you have recieved positive feedback from politicians, radio shows, tv shows, etc. please let me know. I'm interested in seeing who supports the CPSIA without further clarification, who wants changes to the law, and who doesn't believe we need it.

Re: What has worked?

Well the report from Western New York here isnt good. My congressman Brian Higgans is for complete compliancy for the law. He is also on the transportaion and economics committee in Washington D.C. I have emailed him back waiting for a reply. I asked him if anyone did a study on the full economic impact, and why test when componets are already tested before we get them. I will post them if and when I get them. I was at a craft show this past weekend and found several shows that did not know about all of this mess. Also we are trying to flood the local tv stations here requesting that they do a story on this. One of our local stations has a segment called holding people in power accountable. This has worked before so I am hopeful. Keep the gloves laced up tight and keep fighting.

Re: What has worked?

I'm in Missouri and none of the local media around here will touch it. We've written letters, sent emails, everything we can think of and nothing.

Re: What has worked?

I wrote to Arlen Spector - Pa Senator - and got a generic "I got your letter" reply, no other response, so I have no idea...will write again though.

Re: What has worked?

Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA) seemed interested in further clarification and allowances for small business and thrift stores. She hasn't been in the game long in congress, though. She served in the White House for awhile, came home, and then assumed her husbands seat after he passed away in 2005.

Re: What has worked?

When i wrote to my congressmen here I I challenged them to admit that it was a mistake and to correct it. This law was written for large corporations and importers from China. As soon as I challenged Brian Higgans I recieved a letter in 2 days. So on the third day he recieved another from me asking him how is he going to work on fixing the CPSIA also with a challenge ?
I am waiting for his reply now. I will keep you informed . Keep the gloves on its a long fight...

Re: What has worked?

I did a TV interview on our local NBC affiliate here in Columbus, Ohio last Decenber. The reporter hooked me up with a gentleman in our Representative in Congress's office that had direct contact with the CPSC. Talked and emailed him every so many weeks. Even emailed him a copy of the threads that you all posted in that I thought he could relate to. But he and the rest are of the mindset that no child should be harmed. He asked me what if a child sucked on one of my rag doll's arms. Or how would I know that any wooden toy came from a tree that at one time had been treated. My doll was perfectly safe. But I think it is difficult to convince them. They have probably seen cases come to Congress of harmed children. None of us want kids harmed. We all agree on that.

But this CPSIA was allowed to happen without much thought. It couldn't have had much thought. They took manufacturers, importers, handmade, charities, thrift shops, and dumped them all in one pot and stirred. This law cannot relate to each of these participants in the same way. Not to mention the far reaching affects if we had a hurricane, fires, earthquakes, the economic situation, or just plain old everyday life. At some point, the government is going to have to call upon the "pot" for help.

So what is the answer. I truly believe their are smart people in this country. And creative ones. Hi, everyone! We have to reach out like we have never reached before. We are going to have to think like we've never thought before. There is an answer. We just haven't discovered it . . . YET!

I refuse to just wait. As I mentioned in another CPSIA thread this morning, I started thinking about things I haven't done. Those I will do. Let's grab this problem and give is a hard shaking. We can make it happen! I am thoroughly convinced of that.
