What are your plans February 10th?

So, I've just been wondering what exactly everyone plans on doing February 10th? Is everyone going to just close down their shops? Are you going to stay open and hope you don't get caught? And what about all those sellers that have no clue about the new regulations?

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

I am employing a reasonable testing program to remain compliant with CPSIA until August. See my plan here:

Same here, reasonable testing program for now.

If things stay the same I won't be able to sell toys after Aug 14

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

I'm closing and pulling my store from Etsy as soon as I finish filling a custom order I am working on. This is just too much red tape and I can't find reasonable testing program. I'm disabled and all of this stress is just making the pain worse. I'm done.

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

In all seriousness though I think we will have to pull stuff from our shelves in our little shop

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

Assuming no changes to the law or the implementation date, we will take down anything that is a children's item. We will continue to sell patterns, and start adding adult items to our shop. We will probably not have had an opportunity by then to have reasonable testing conducted.

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

I've established a reasonable testing program using XRF testing. I've narrowed my product line and put some new things on hold but I'm staying open. but that only gets me through to August 14.

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

I'll be pulling all of my US accounts and no longer be shipping to the USA. If I can get the GCC's I need I will continue to sell items made from the fabrics that I can ge the GCC's for, but for many things in my current inventory I will not be able to get GCC's and I have no means of reasonable testing where I live.

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

umm, the naked mushroom will probably close down until it gets resolved.

I have heard rumblings of other sellers who are prepared to "snitch" on sellers who keep selling. I dont want to get caught up in that at all.

How can I find out more about the XRF testing?

It's very "reasonable" to assume materials that do not contain paint or metal are lead safe...including yarn.

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

I have read the existing inventory is OK after February 10, so I plan to get lots of things listed before that. Finding as XRF tester in my area may be a good idea depending on the charge. I wonder if I can just have each color of my wool tested instead of each toy item.

I also plan to send a package to President Obama with a testing cost break down for each item in the package.

So, when you say "reasonable", can I assume that my fabric I use is lead free and that I can continue to sell my blankets without testing?

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

I'm pulling my baby items by that date - I agree with the 'too much red tape' for me personally. I have been moving to more patterns and other products already.

Now I'm just trying to make a decision on changing my shop name - REALLY don't want to lose all the feedback and go through the logistics of opening a new shop, but "Crocheted Baby" just doesn't apply anymore. Blech

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

It may seem "reasonable" to assume lead free-fabric but you never know what has been used as a dye fixative. So far only natural materials that have NOT been dyed are currently looking at being exempt from testing.

Personally I think it would seem to be the fabric importer's job to make sure the product is lead free. Or if we buy things made in the US isn't it safe to assume lead free? My wool comes from a local family farm where they do all the dye work. I KNOW it's lead free.

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

I don't plan to pull the plug on anything.
I've always intended to use the most natural products and to keep a check on my manufacturers so as far shutting down out of fear of what could happen, that's a no. I don't consider that an option for me. If things get crazy here, I'll move shop but I'll always be around :)
Till I absolutely have to start third party testing, I'll do the reasonable testing measures and I plan on reading more about XRF testing. Lots to study up on.
Oh and praying. Lots of praying!

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

I'm waiting on a test certificate from my wool supplier - hoping that they get everything tested by feb 10th. In the meantime I am making toys from udyed untreated roving and wool paintings for adults. I have no idea what I will do come August.

__________

Here it is: http://www.cpsc.gov/LIBRARY/FOIA/advisory/317.pdf

It says that products under this law "cannot be sold from inventory or on store shelves" after February 10.

I'm NOT saying you can't sell it if you are using what you deem a "reasonable" testing process (or whatever). I'm only saying that the law DOES apply to all children's items effective Feb 10 regardless of when they were made.

Re: What are your plans February 10th?

I'm going to temporarily close my shop in the hopes that I can reopen once this mess has been fixed. I'm not content to sit and wait, though. I'll be continuing my efforts to support the cause and will put my crafting energies toward my new shop, http://agentjane.etsy.com , which will open Feb. 10.
