Tracking Labels

Hi everyone,

I make fabric dolls, which are small enough that a large tracking label would just be too awkward.

I read this from one of the links Mr. Cohen provided:

"Is the information ascertainable if I mark my product and packaging with a code and website address where all the required information can be found?

Yes, provided the name of a manufacturer, importer, or private labeler is also identified so a consumer without access to the internet can know whom to contact directly to also obtain the required information."

I started to think that most of the information that needs to be on the tracking label is already recorded each time I make a sale on etsy. In theory, I could make sure that each doll listed has the required info in the listing so that it would be saved in the sold items at the time of purchase. Since I make dolls up as they are ordered, the date of purchase would correspond to the manufacture date within a couple of days. I could also assign each doll a production number on a small tag with my name and etsy shop address. That would allow for a small tag, and the customer could find the rest of the needed information on etsy. Does this seem to be a feasible solution? If it is, perhaps it might work for others? Input would bee greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Tracking Labels

How big do you think the tracking labels are? Mine are only 1x1 5/8 inches, and have all the needed information, including date. 5 lines is all that is needed, and my first line is a larger decorative typestyle than the other 4 lines. You do not need batch, cohort information.

What if Etsy deletes sold information as it is shown now? Let's face it, Etsy is constantly changing, and doesn't ask us what we need before they make those changes. What if you decide to close up shop on Etsy? What if the doll is given as a gift, and the receiver is not the purchaser?

Mine say.

Re: Tracking Labels

Thank you for the feedback. I am concerned about my little dolls which have short seams so that even a 1" wide tag on a 2" wide hip, for instance, would look funny. Would it be OK to use a sharpie permanent marker and write on the little butt cheek under the diaper? I have actually had people request signatures and dates before so I know it would look just fine .

Re: Tracking Labels

Karen, I'd email Neal Cohen at the CPSC and ask. His email is on the thread pinned above.
