Does anyone have a copy or picture of what their CPSIA labels look like? And/or your FTC labels? I have been looking at a lot of different items in retail stores to compare them to my labels and I can't even find consistancy anywhere. I made some of my own labels for items that I have made/sold so far and I am starting to doubt what I had even after all the research I did beforehand. Anyway, I thought some examples from other crafters might help or even put my mind at ease. Thanks everyone!

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

Still learning. So, is aerowynscastle right? Which label needs the care instructions?

yoursandi, I was just reading here about handwritten labels. I crochet soft baby blankets and need a label that is soft. Can I handwrite on a strip of satin ribbon (I've been checking out my baby's blankets purchased from stores and that's what most of them look like, but with printed words)?

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

I'd still like to see a picture of a tag done properly. We ARE visual learners. I was searching ETSY last night for label printers, but was warned that not all are safe.

It's starting to sink in thanks to jewelrydesignsbyMe. Here is what she outlined last night. Now that I'm not so blindsided, it's making sense.

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

I make craft kits for kids, so I just use a sticky label on my boxes. You can see a sample on the bottom of this post: http://smartbottomenterprises.blogspot.com/2009/11/fancying-it-up-green-style.html
Hope this helps!

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

I think you can see my label on my items...or a couple diapers anyway. Mine were done by miss label. They fold in half. The top has my store and proudly made in the USA. The backside (when sewn on..looped) has all the washing instructions.
The other ones I just ordered new tonight. I got tired of trying to make them!
I ordered iron on labels like you put in your kids clothing for camp, etc. I had them printed like this:

Manufactured on:
Mycity, WI 53333
USA

I will write in my date with a laundry pen.

If that is not good enough, then I am stumped. I have quit sewing for the last year because of all this crap and am just about fed up. LOL

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

I am very confused. Most of the items I was making for my store were for adults but then I saw a cute pattern and made a child's toy. Looking through the rules and regs looks like it may be a waste of time. All my items are made of natural fibres and and are made in Canada. So if I add on the date then I am fine? Where do most people attach these silly labels?

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

What about applique shirts? The shirt is already made/approved and tagged...and I'm just sewing cotton fabric on...do I need to add a separate tag? Can that just be a hang-label (aka like a business card...)??? Or does it have to be sewn in? Sooo confused.

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

I just read another post and it said (pertaining to my last post above) that no additional tag is required as long as the care for the item has not changed. Thought that info. may help someone else in the same situation...

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

Can I send put a tag with my name, address, date and send them the paper band that came with ball of yarn? Lazy I know but would that work?

Both the FTC and the CPSC have said that their labels must be premanantly attached. The are a few product specific exclusions for the FTC label but the CPSIA label has only a caveat that, on an item by item basis, they will consider allowing a product to have the tracking information printed on the packaging only rather than the product & packaging if the product is too small, the label would interfere with the function of, or significantly detract from the aesthetics of the final product.

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

Any new information about what pen to use if writing in DOM? Each of my baby blankets will be made on different days. I don't make batches. Each one will be different print.

UpcycleBaby
you memtioned and iron on label?
Where did you get yours as I'm trying to figure out the best way to apply tags to my crochet baby afghan. I've basicly attached a hand tag with care instruction, but now I need to add more to meet the FTC and CPSIA needs.

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

I thought you needed to list fiber content and wash instructions? I don't think the date matters on clothing, does it?

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

Cpsia tracking labels are only required on product for Children 12 and under. But don't hold your breath, if they get the chance, they'll roll it out for everything. Give the gov an inch, they'll take a mile.

I'm not sure if they are compliant with the rules and regs, but I know Pigma pens are great for writing on fabric.

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

I'm a little confused, I've read through most of the posts but didn't hear any mention of a tracking number. My understanding is that the CPSIA labels must have biz name and contact information as well as the date produced (month and year being fine) and a tracking number so that you can track each and every material used. Or is it just that since I kknow I made the white onside with the red appliqué in march, I must have used x brand of materials? Enlighten me please. It's been a while since I've had the time to look through all this stuff. I hope what I'm thinking is not the case as it will be much less work for me lol. Thanks!

Re: Samples of your CPSIA and FTC labels

My understanding about cohort info (batch, lot, etc) is that the CPSC understands that it doesn't really make sense for very small businesses producing things one by one.

They do want us to keep good records so that we're able to track down every material put into a product in case of a recall.

So if you have info on your labels that allows you to identify a specific product and tie it to all of its respective materials and supplies, you should be fine (in regards to cohort info).
