Hate to tell it like it is, folks, but this kind of legislation is owned and operated by...Democrats. If you vote for a Democrat of any kind, you'll end up with the same thing. There's a nearly identical bill about food sponsored by more Dems in a committee now. Same scenario (based on peanut fear instead of lead), and the results will be the same. Small farmers will be hurt along side our small businesses. You can see the list of sponsors of CPSIA here
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-4040 Sure, the majority minus Ron Paul voted for the thing in the end, but that's today's laws - so convoluted you can't possibly read them or understand them until it's too late. But a Republican most likely would not have instigated legislation like this. Facts are facts.
Much as Democrats claim to be for the little people, the CPSIA is what they do to them year in and year out. Republicans can kiss my u-no-what these days, too, but if you want to keep govt out of business, they're unfortunately our best bet.
If you're really interested in "change", you can start at your local levels and elect people who are business friendly, for city councils, mayors, and the like. These are the people who will go on to your state house and senate, and then on to the federal house and senate.
