I've found a few, but if anyone has any more to share, where to find them, who offers them, etc... it'd be awesome.

Canadian here and trying to muddle through all this. Will a MSDS sheet prove led free for components?

Not as the law stands now but hopefully if we get it amended to allow supply-side testing they will.

at this point, we're attempting to make a case for the lack of lead in our supplies, and hoping that with enough evidence, and effort we can show that we care, and that 3rd party testing is redundant.



i honestly doubt that most of us are going to even want to use suppliers that aren't testing after all this.


why would i waste money to test a product i know will fail? it'd be business suicide.

i found elmers... i saw someone was looking for elmers info, i scanned it for wood glue, it SHOULD be on there, i'd think.

Yay! I got the same breakthrough today. I was also told that each product has to carry these, and that every store has to carry the MSDS sheets in the back for their fabrics. Do you know what a happy dance I through after this? I consider this a reasonable testing program. I was even giving a main number to call for the fabrics at Joann's where they have the MSDS sheets on file.

sugar, see if you're allowed to scan and share ones for fabrics other sellers might have in common with you... if you're willing.

if they wanted to educate us... this was a really great way to do so.

BTW, anyone who uses Dharma Trading, there is a whole CPSIA section AND they have MSDS sheets for a lot of their products right on their website.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but I doubt an MSDS will help you. If they agree to supply-side testing you will probably need a COA- certificate of analysis.

I used to work in a manufacturing company and I'm familiar with this type of documentation. An MSDS is a general document that tell you safety precautions to take in case of a spill. It does not guarantee that a certain lot of a certain product is free of lead of phthalates. A certificate of analysis proves testing on an exact manufacturing lot of material and should be traceable. I do not know how this would apply to items like fabrics but we used to get COA's on most of our raw materials so we could then guarantee levels and purities in our finished products.

at this point, i think anything that we can learn and know about our supplies is a leg up on what we knew before.


that's how i'm looking at it.

some people are going to learn things about their supplies that they didn't know. and some people work with toxic materials, and will benefit from this, a lot.

Both Plaid and Tulip willingly e-mailed me the MSDS on each of the fabric paints I use. Try e-mailing your manufacturer. COAs, if necessary, would need to be requested for each individual tube of paint, yarn, etc. as it would pertain to separate manufactured lots. Let's hope they will allow the use of the MSDS as opposed to COAs as manufacturers will not be as willing to provide the latter for free. There is already some grumbling about this.

MSDS are great information, and your average retail customer doesn't know they exist, so you are right about the more you know the better. We had one for every single product and sent them out all the time. But they don't prove that the supply was tested to be lead-free or pthalate free, unfortunately.

MSDS sheets are to be made available by the manufacturers. If you know your manufacturer, then contact them for the appropriate MSDS. I've had a library of MSDS sheets since way before this mess came about.

hmmm... if they are both considered toxins, wouldn't they have to show up on the msds, now, tho... maybe not in the past.
