Patterns for children's toys

Hello,
I am from Australia and I am currently working on my own knitting patterns for children's stuffed toys which I intend on selling as a PDF file. As I am only selling the pattern and not the finished toy, my question is are there any laws that I should follow regarding child safety or any disclaimers I need to put in my patterns. Also will I be held liable for toys made using my pattern? If I were to discuss these legal issues with a lawyer does anyone know what kind of lawyer I'd need to talk to? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you :)

Re: Patterns for children's toys

Whie you are only selling the patterns, you shouldn't be liable for the finished product, in my mind, it would be good if you knew and designed your patterns to enable the finished product to pass safety laws. For example there is a no drawstring law in hoods and waistbands of outerwear, so if you were designing a sweater with a hood, you shouldn't design it with a drawstring. If you are in Austrailia, you should follow Austrailia's children's safety laws. They are much like the USA.'s.

Thanks Beverly. Yeah I agree with you there, I do want the toys I design to be safe regardless, so I will familiarise myself with the standards :) thanks for yor help.
