Marking labels...

I have seen that people mark their tags for the DOM with a regular pen, not a sharpie because of bleeding. Doesn't the regular pen wash off the label or do you use a particular kind of pen that is approved that doesn't wash off?

Re: Marking labels...

yes, regular ball point ink will wash off and very well may stain and ruin the product. I use a fine point permanant ink quilt pen. I only make 2 small pen point dots under my year and month code.

Re: Marking labels...

I use a fine point sharpie and have actually put some of my own doll clothes through the laundry and had the ink remain on the tag. Not sure people who buy doll clothes actually launder them that much, so I hope I'm OK.

Re: Marking labels...

Any clue how I can make sure the pen I'm using is CPSIA compliant?

Re: Marking labels...

I haven't actually gotten results back from any pen people but for all the other products, I have been going to the manufacturer's website then looking at the tiny links on the bottom for something along the lines of "legal" or "certificates" or if all else fails I use the contact information to email somebody at the company. Most have gotten back to me, quite a few have certificates posted. Then you just have to make sure whatever "certificate" they give you actually gives results/says they passed - some have certificates that say it is currently being tested, or that they don't have to test...just be persistent. Oh,and post back if you find a compliant pen! :-)

Re: Marking labels...

These pens look like a pretty good bet: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/1692-AA.shtml , though I did not do the follow through to see if they are cpsia compliant - they do meet that ASTM D 4236 standard (mentioned in dharmatrading co's summary) which seems to mean they are not toxic, but of course that doesn't mean they were tested by a cpsia certified lab and all - I just don't have it in me to do that much research today :-)
