Thank you so much for all of the great information and links posted in this group! I am re-building my shop after I let my listings expire during a busy work season, so as I re-list things I am making sure everything is compliant with both CPSIA (when needed) and FTC garment labeling. The resources here have been an amazing help!
I think I have my CPSIA labels figured out. I will order those from Spoonflower this weekend.
I am now sorting through FTC garment labeling laws - I sell scarves and children's dresses and would like to expand to more clothing and blankets/quilts. I use a variety of fabric types and it seems a little overwhelming to make my own labels each time, or to custom order labels for all the different combinations. I've figured out though that I think I could piece together the information with several stock labels. For example, I have found a good price on separate stock labels that say:
Made in USA from Imported Fabric
Made in USA
Hand Wash and Line Dry
Machine Wash Cold and Tumble Dry Low
Dry Clean Only
100% Cotton
100% Wool
Etc...
So if I made a 100% wool scarf with domestic yarn I would grab 100% wool, made in the USA, and hand wash line dry labels to add.
If I made wool jacket with imported fabric, I would use 100% wool, made in the USA with imported fabric, and a dry clean only labels.
Does that seem logical? It would involve having several separate tags on everything, but I think it seems easier than trying to get custom tags of every combination. I already have labels from namemaker with just my shop name on them.
What are your thoughts?
