Is this cheating?

If I change the title of this listing to "grown-ups only" would that get around the CPSIA new law about lead testing for kids? I could market it as a lap blanket?

Re: Is this cheating?

I don't see why you couldn't market it as a lap blanket. I'd love a lap blanket like that ... it would be great for elderly people ... or is there some law about that??? Leesa

Re: Is this cheating?

I wondered about that too. Changing the photos & putting: "not intended for children under the age of 12."
Is that legal? I sell monkey decals, mostly for children's rooms, but I have had a few adults who don't have children purchase them for their own personal use. I think the law is way to broad to work.

Re: Is this cheating?

What a cute blanket. I'd use it myself. I'd just change the (cute) photo and the description.

Re: Is this cheating?

No, Leesa, I don't think so, they only care about babies under 12 chewing on lead tainted items (not that mine are, mind you!). Anyone over 12 is fair game!

Re: Is this cheating?

Thanks jakboutique! I guess I'll have to change it up - I actually may get a pic with my mom (78) using it, that'd be different. (and maybe hint that your grandchild would love it too? is that legal?)

Re: Is this cheating?

I'd enjoy a photo with quilt on granny while she holds the baby!
(I'm so evil...)

Holly, I have the opposite sort of situation. I make cute things because I'm just a sucker for cute (I worship at the Church of Cute Overload.) ...
90%+ of my end users are adult and teen collectors... maybe a half dozen lucky kids have ended up being the owners of my toys. (I make them sturdy enough to hold up to being played with. That's just craftmanship, ya know.)

Re: Is this cheating?

I don't think it is cheating...anymore than a diaper is a child's toy unless it is specifically made for a doll...

Re: Is this cheating?

I'd say go for it. The rules are still in limbo anyway. I'd go for the grandma and baby photo!

Re: Is this cheating?

sanity, it's not just about toys...the cloth diaper counts because people use them as burp cloths or teething cloths. or... and OMG! it touches baby's skin.

I gotta eat, I'm getting punchy.

Re: Is this cheating?

You should probably leave the baby out of the photos because of this line from the cpsia questions site. Check out the link below.

Whether the product is represented in its packaging, display, promotion or advertising as appropriate for use by children 12 years of age or younger.

Re: Is this cheating?

oh, poo! TOo bad, I LOVE that photo. It's of a baby who came into the store where I work - Santa had given her one of MY blankies for Xmas and her mom let me take her pic - isn't she the sweetest thing - I just love looking at her. (not that I don't enjoy looking at you, Nick!)

Re: Is this cheating?

Could a burp cloth be billed as an adult shoulder protector?
