I got this email....where do I go from here,

I got an email after I had tried to sign up on the business portal registration. I filled out everything,,,,but it says this:

Your request for a Business Portal account cannot be completed because CPSC cannot validate that your product is within the CPSC jurisdiction. The CPSC will complete your request if you send the following information on company letterhead:


· Your name, job title, address, telephone number, email address; and
· A signed statement certifying that (a) your company is a manufacturer, importer, or private labeler of a consumer product or other substance over which the CPSC has jurisdiction, and (b) you are authorized to receive and comment on Reports on behalf of the company.[1]

What does this mean? Does it mean I'm not big enough to be considered a manufacturer? Am I doing something wrong? Am I just considered a crafter? Any help would be appreciated.

Also I'm from Canada.

Did you fill it out for small batch business?

No small batch manufacturer I think

So if you make fewer than 7,500 units and less than $1 million you can register as a small batch manufacture here http://www.cpsc.gov/smallbatch

Keep in mind this is just for the States. If you ship in Canada too, then there are probably other rules you need to follow (don't know much about it since I only ship in the US.

Right, which is what I did and I got this email.

If you are just using your Etsy store email/convo system as your email they see only Etsy. If you have a dedicated web email address like from your own website you won't get this. The system was originally set up for larger businesses than most of us are. The Gov. had no idea there were so many cottage businesses, so we worked out the alternate system of submitting a statement . SOOOOO. just follow their directions. This isn't a problem really. They just need to know who is in charge if they should need to get in touch with you. You are the owner and you are a manufacturer, NOT a retailer or importer or distributor.
