How much does it cost?

to BUY the XRF gun? does anyone have an inkling?! I know someone said Jennifer Taggert (smartmamma) in LA has one... do you know how much she paid, or how to ask her?

My husband just wants to KNOW. I don't know if he thinks he can maybe use it for other applications on our ranch or what?!

Any ideas on the cost of the GUN? (not on the testing).

Re: How much does it cost?

I think on one of the threads someone said in the $40K range. I'm not sure what you would want to xray on a ranch.

Re: How much does it cost?

I spoke with a co in Ohio and he said that there are currently only two co making the xrfgun with plans for a third to start in China. YUP, it costs around $40,000 to purchase one and he quoted me a 390.00 with tech over the phone assistance to rent one for a day.

Re: How much does it cost?

I have seen listings from $20,000 to $40,000. There was one on Craigs List for $6,000. This is not a casual thing to own or to use (even if you could afford it or rent it). It uses X-radiation and in itself is extremely hazardous due to exposure to radiation through use. Some states require a certification course to operate one. Precautions need to be taken in use.

Re: How much does it cost?

pastperfect: Yeah, I'm definitely not up for buying one. We have enough chemicals and leukemia-issues around here... I don't need something else toxic in our presence. Ack!

Thanks for the info :)

Re: How much does it cost?

Since the CPSC hasn't even determined to whom this law applies, it's kind of a moot point. What the CPSIA says and how it will be applied are two different things. Most of us will never ever have to test our products, although we may need to research our raw materials to make sure those are complaint or exempt.

Re: How much does it cost?

As I've mentioned in earlier posts that I feel it is consistant with my ethics as an artist who uses materials of unknown origons from the recycling center for me to test the snot out of my stash of goods. LAW SMAW, I already made up my mind to test and not just for lead.
