How do I figure out the % with different types of fabric

I'm using different types of fabric. How to you I figure out the %? Is it by weight? Surface? Or should I "just" give the % for the different parts (lining, padding, outside layer)? Tks

You would just list the % of each fabric used with each part. I'm going through the same thing myself.

I'm thinking that I read somewhere (can't remember where) that it's based on weight. Does that sound right to anyone?

I don't know, but I would guess square inches. Different fabrics have different weights. How could you measure lightweight silk vs thick wool if you used weight?

Re: How do I figure out the % with different types of fabric

I think that I found the answer: "Give the percentage, by weight, of each kind of fiber in the product" http://tinyurl.com/yhpl9vq
Thank your so much for helping me finding the answer.
I still need to do the math, but the label should be shorter that way. :)

Re: How do I figure out the % with different types of fabric

would not the percentage be per each type of fabric? So, if you joined silk and wool in a pillow, you'd say 100% silk [part/location/clour], 100% wool [part/location/colour].

I was looking at an Ikea label earlier today, noting that they are always very thorough to identify all the parts in a product like that.

BTW, love your shop banner purepixie!

Re: How do I figure out the % with different types of fabric

You need to list based on the percentage of each item.

If you are using 1/3 yard that is 100% wool, 1/3 yard that is a cotton/acrylic blend, then your resulting item will be 50% wool and 50% cotton/acrylic blend.

Re: How do I figure out the % with different types of fabric

@HappySleepy: Tks :)
Let say that you use different types of fabric for the outer shell of a piece of garment. You can't say top third 100% wool and bottom 3/4 100% cotton. If you can use weight it makes things much easier.
My issue is not to end up with a huge ugly label.

@crochetgal: The thing is that unless you are making a blanket, you don't end up with squares of fabric which makes it very difficult to measure.
