Hmmm...allow me to throw a little craziness into the mix...

that might not be so crazy.

Actually, I am far from crazy, I merely look at all of the players, maneuvers, and scenarios in any given situation. I have learned that most of humanity works on the basis of what they stand to gain from any given situation or person. In the end it just makes the fight against over-regulation of the small business community that much more important---This is something I have thought about significantly...just take something like ebay and the entire resale industry. They provide a life sustaining income for many people on disability, stay at home moms and the like.

This money is for the most part un-taxed income. This underground economy is one that as of now cannot be tracked. Frankly I can buy groceries, clothing for my children, toys, furniture, books, and an entire host of other necessities and NEVER set foot in a store thanks to venues like Craigslist, Ebay, etc. These initial requirements under the CPSIA act end up being a first round attack on a person's ability to conduct business without government authorization.

An interesting thing in the below excerpt is the mention of the serial numbers. You figure if this is successful with children's items, eventually there will be some "scare" that will make it necessary to do the same for adult items. I don't know, it's an interesting premise :

"Indeed, the Holy Grail of tyrants is the ability to completely control others. While this has proven to be a task that cannot be accomplished with military or police powers, it can, and will, be done by controlling every individual's ability to buy and sell.

When cash (coins, paper money, and checks) is eliminated, and every man's wealth is stored in computers in the form of electronic ones and zeros, we will not be able to buy anything unless we please our masters. We will not be granted access to our "money" if our religion, political beliefs, race, etc., are not acceptable to those who will be the gatekeepers of the world's wealth.

With the further development of RFID technology we will soon see the day when every item that is produced or offered for sale will have a serial number. This will enable those who would rule over us to have an air-tight system of inventory control. How would this work? Well, with a record of all things that are available for consumption, items will be distributed only to those who are deemed "worthy" by the masters.

The ability to trace every item is essential for controlling the ability to sell. An item that has a serial number can be traced from the producer to the consumer. This all but eliminates the possibility of a black market. A black market cannot be tolerated because it might be used to supply life's basic necessities to those who refuse to submit.

If someone is found to possess an item that is not directly traceable to them, then they must answer to the authorities as to how they came to acquire it. "Did you steal it? Did you engage in bartering? Did someone give it to you? You know that all of these activities are forbidden."

If another individual's goods are scanned and they do not have in their possession an item that the system says they should, then they better be able to prove that they have not engaged in bartering, or that they have not given the item to one who has been declared an economic non-entity.

The cashless / RFID economic system will be the perfect weapon with which the oppressors will conquer and rule the world. It will also provide tyrants with the means by which they can reward their friends and destroy their enemies."

Hmmmm, the book of revelation (in the Bible) predicts such a scenario. Imagine that. Only people will have the numbers on them, too.

Re: Hmmm...allow me to throw a little craziness into the mix...

I love technology, and as a society we benefit greatly from all the amazing tools we have at our fingertips. But, in the hands of the wrong people, this technology can be turned against us.

Years ago we read about these scenarios only in science fiction. Now, all the technology is there to make it a reality. Recently, with all the economic and political changes, society has been softened up for radical changes. So far we are only on the edges, but decisions made by certain people could suck us all into something we never wanted.

However, man's scheming and manipulating is not the ultimate victory. Personally, I have a trust in the higher power who created space and earth for the enjoyment of mankind.

I hope I'm dead before all this comes into play...as I have no doubt it will. It sounds a lot like the "end times" prophecies.

So glad to see people looking at this part of the problem. I've always had my kids tease me about screaming "Big Brother!!!!" every time the government pulls something like this. We constantly have our rights taken away from us; in small ways and in big ways like this one.

Re: Hmmm...allow me to throw a little craziness into the mix...

Yep, I do believe the world is heading to that and in our life time too. I am a believer of the bible and from what I can understand from reading and the teachings all the prophecies have been fulfilled and its just a matter of time.

I know people have been saying that for years and years that the end is near but all the prophecies stated in the bible had not come to pass, but they have now.

We really don't know when the lord is coming back, it states in the bible that not even the son of God knows, only God himself.

Mark 13:32
But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son but the Father alone.
Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time is.

Praying the lord my soul to take.

Thanks for bumping..I hadn't seen this one. I'm in agreement with the biblical implications of heavy handed world government.

Re: Hmmm...allow me to throw a little craziness into the mix...

I'm old and tired , and in my experience nothing in life is black and white-The gray area is where all the actual life happens! Has anyone got the numbers on how many inspectors and certified product "OK'ers" we will have on the ground in China? My understanding is that up until now there were only four in all of Asia. If we are held up to higher standards than those who already are importing products with no checks and balances I would imagine a hardcore class action lawsuit would certainly be in order. Yes we need safety, but a cotton onesie made organically in Biloxi and wax candy filled with mystery fluid from China are not the same kitten!

Very much agreed...I too have wondered how many "certified centers" there will be offshore.
In addition something that doesn't seem to be bought out here. I just finished an astronomy course to fulfill a general ed requirement for my degree-----we're talking basic astronomy(although it whupped my behind!)

Lead is a NATURAL element. It is no more specifically dangerous than any of the elements---all of which if you are exposed to a high amount will be toxic. Lead is found in the earth. It seems to be that throughout this issue the powers that be are trying to make lead to be this strange exotic substance that just came on the scene. The point is don't use it to make baby teething rings...no more than you would use liquid nitrogen for a child's fingerpaints...commonsense. Scare tactics and spin doctoring--all with the intent of pushing through an ulterior motive....

Following the pattern of thought that Congress and CPSC seems to have taken, I guess children won't be allowed to use pencils anymore either because many contain lead--so in the mind of Congress, no pencils are a definite indication that education as a whole is simply too dangerous for children to be exposed too and thus the concept of schooling should be thrown out altogether.

"But wait what happened to school?"
"I appreciate your questions and we understand that this may be somewhat of an inconvenience but we are confident in our decision and feel that we are making the safest choice for all involved"

Splendid.

Yeah, they're so worried about lead - have you read an ingredient listing on any random product on a supermarket shelf? We're killing ourselves with chemicals we eat, drink and shower with, but lead has been banned in all those things for years. This is just such a ridiculous piece of legislation.

Ittybitty...I think you are on to something, I see a great video game coming out of this. One hundred bad guys running all over the world trying to gather up all the 100% cotton onesies...I am less frightened of this than the Patriot Act (which I find bone chilling).

Re: Hmmm...allow me to throw a little craziness into the mix...

Well see acts such as this are the first attempts at regulating commerce such that there can be no sales without prior government authorization...it actually goes hand in hand with acts such as the Patriot Act...If you find the PA bone chilling, just read some of the executive orders on the books from the 1950s/60s, some of completely dismantle the Constitution and Bill of Rights should a disaster occur. The frightening thing is that they are still valid orders, they've never been gotten rid of.

Re: Hmmm...allow me to throw a little craziness into the mix...

I'm not into the Biblical angle of it all that much, but I've read a lot on www.stuartwilde.com in the past....he's got some very interesting ideas about what's going on in the world today, actually relates a lot of it to a war he says is going on in the spirit world (the "Mirror World" as he calls it). I haven't kept up on it lately, the site was recently revamped and I'm still figuring out getting around in the new version, but it's interesting stuff.

Re: Hmmm...allow me to throw a little craziness into the mix...

Certain Christian groups are probably going to freak out about this, the labeling requirement might be seen as the "mark of the beast" talked about in Revelations. I was reading a lot about the National Animal Identification System a while back, some groups (Amish, etc) see the NAIS microchipping/tagging requirements the same way.

Not that I know anything about the religious stuff though, I'm just guessing.....

Re: Hmmm...allow me to throw a little craziness into the mix...

WOW thats Deeeeeeeeeeepppp!

I had to read it and re-read it severaltimes to get the jist of it. Yes Big Brother is looking for his fair share. He needs all the help he can get...unfortunately.

Ebay does track sales and Uncle Sam can find out about a persons income based on Ebay records. I'm not sure about etsy but there is always a paper trail. The nice thing right is that Uncle Sam isn't interested in the "small fry" sellers.

But if you start really selling a lot of items it will perk Uncle Sams interests.

I have a friend who did a "LOT" of sales on Ebay and he was caughtup in a audit mess and had to pay some stiff fines and interest. So keep in mind that lots of sales and lots of cash movement will catch the eye of Uncle Sam even today.

Re: Hmmm...allow me to throw a little craziness into the mix...

ittybitty, great insight and deductions about all this.

I'm an evangelical Christian and it doesn't appear to me that the labeling requirements actually fit the "mark of the beast". We might feel that these requirements help "set the stage" though.

What I am freaking out about is the CPSIA law. Now that's downright scary IMHO. :)
