Have you seen this Note in the Guidelines?

This "note" follows the timetable in the guidelines put out by CPSC -
____________________
Note: The enforcement of the requirement for a general certificate of conformity for NON‐children’s products will resume on February 10, 2010. The Commission will be issuing additional information on this topic prior to that date.
____________________

It is from here -
http://cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/smbus/manufacturers.html#q5

Does anyone else see this as an inclusion of all products - children or adult in the enforcement of CPSIA? There does not seem to be any other reference to this other than the "note".

Surely CPSIA has an age limit of 12 and under. Where is this coming from?

This is very disturbing.

Re: Have you seen this Note in the Guidelines?

I'll wait on "The Commission will be issuing additional information on this topic prior to that date.", before deciding. It just might refer to regulated products that the CPSC already had pervue (sp?) on.

Re: Have you seen this Note in the Guidelines?

Holy Moly.....I've never noticed that before. I think we all better write the cpsc and ask them about it. Pray that it is a typo. If we all write and ask, maybe we can get an answer. YIKES!!!!

Re: Have you seen this Note in the Guidelines?

I am glad to see that I was not reading it wrong - and those of you who went to check see it the way I am seeing it. I figured someone here would come back and say,"oh that does not mean that" and explain it. But so far it is looking like everyone could be screwed.

Re: Have you seen this Note in the Guidelines?

OK, seriously.... how many children or non-children have actually been affected by poorly labelled products. I am so tired of the government looking out for us, as if we can't look out for ourselves. I swear.

I hope this doesn't mean everyone will have to test.

I would assume it refers to the laws already in existence for consumer safety. The CPSC monitor safety for all consumers no matter what age, right?

Re: Have you seen this Note in the Guidelines?

When the hullabaloo about CPSIA started, I remember reading something out having to include a certificate with everything. And I remember thinking 'Oh no, what a pain!" and then the children's issue overshadowed everything and I pushed it to the back of my mind.

This pdf has some information:

http://www.cpsc.gov/businfo/frnotices/fr09/certification.pdf

(I found a sample certificate, but the link will break the page.)

Re: Have you seen this Note in the Guidelines?

Oh, and I remember wondering if we would be getting these certificates for everything we bought, including supplies, and marveling at the amount of work and waste of paper it was going to become. Can you image a bead shop or fabric store passing out certificates for every individual item they sell?

Re: Have you seen this Note in the Guidelines?

I read washing instructions before I buy then soon as I get home I cut the dam labels out.
This is so crazy my head is spinning. I would like to know how I would get all that info on a tiny dog sweater?
How did our great Grandparents ever manage to survive and raise kids on their own with out ( the government looking over the shoulder 24/7 telling them what to do and what not to do ) maybe now we are all such a bunch of idiots that can't think for ourselves, going to crawl under a rock now.

They can kiss my butt. I'm going to act as if the gub'mint doesn't exist. They no longer serve any purpose except to make slaves of all of us. Serfs UP!
