Gesso

Anyone know if there are issues with using gesso?

Sorry if this is a repeat - I searched, but have not seen this brought up yet.

TIA!

I don't believe that modern acrylic gesso has any lead in it.Is the white titanium pigment a problem? I don't know...don't know enough. Not much help Jennifer.

Re: Gesso

When buying art supplies in general, check the side for the "AP" stamp. That means the product does not contain anything that is toxic.

Re: Gesso

I once painted an entire overstuffed chair with gesso. Luckily the chair was a garage sale fine, because it turned out soooo ugly. :)

Re: Gesso

It should be safe, the label should say what it contains and whether or not it is toxic. Look for the words "Non-toxic conforms to ASTM D-4236 labeling requirements."

Re: Gesso

I paint everything w/gesso. I have a large bottle from years ago that I just keep using. I painted a wall (dated paneling) at the top of my stairs w/it. Made it look like barnwood then stamped ivy all over & a few frogs at the bottom. You really have to look for the frogs though! Love gesso!
