Re: FTC exempt list

That would be the exempt list for CPSIA testing.

Here's the links to the FTC

Thanks!

Sorry FayeMaloneDesigns, you probably get bored of posting the same info all the time but I appreciate it!

Re: FTC exempt list

Okay, I remember reading one of those and I found it unclear. When they state "Textile Products: What’s Covered And What’s Not", are they referring to the fact that products that are "covered" means they require FTC labelling? In my head it means the opposite but I don't think it is. I find the wording to be confusing. Exempt and not-exempt would have been clearer. Can you clarify FayeMaloneDesigns? Thanks again!

Re: FTC exempt list

Covered means the product is under the jurisdection of the law, and you may need to label, not covered not covered by the law, the law doesn't apply, but other branches of the gov may have rules and regs. Confusing huh?

Have a specific question on a product?.

Re: FTC exempt list

The answer to this question is probably obvious from all I have been reading on this forum but I would like to get your comments anyway. I knit baby sweaters and use vintage buttons on my cardigans. Clearly I do not know the origin of the buttons and doubt they were ever tested for lead but they really add something special to the sweater. Do I really have to stop using them? Getting my own testing done seems too expensive for the price of the item.

Re: FTC exempt list

Are they Mother of Pearl by chance? If so don't worry about them, or bone, or some other natural material?

I guess if depends on how you feel about gambling. Not knowing what you mean by "vintage" , I can't tell you for sure, or even maybe, and I can't be responsible for telling you to defy this law, but...... If you are talking about really old metal buttons, don't use them. If you think they are plastic from the 70's 80's etc, well I would take the chance, but that is me.

The gov has so many other fish to catch with real hazards that I am not sleepless over worrying about a couple of buttons by LaMOde on a dress. but that is just me. Am I telling you to ignore the law? No way!

Re: FTC exempt list

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to be looking for natural materials from now on. I do have glass and wood that I have been using. But I also have some small metals ones with paint on them. Guess that sounds a little risky. I'll keep on looking.

Re: FTC exempt list

Thanks for the link. I stopped making most of my baby stuff, but I'd love to create new things and this information is very helpful.
