Lots of folks are just discovering how the CPSIA affects them. This post is intended to help you find the info you need all in one place.

If you make any product intended for children ages 12 and under, you need to read this thread. In it you will find important links to give you information straight from the source, the CPSC.

First of all, you can go to the CPSC website and add yourself to their email list so that you will get all the updated information directly to your email. This is very helpful, as the CPSC issues new statements and guidelines quite often. You won't have to search for the answers because they come directly to your email!

sprinklejoy, textiles are exempt from cpsia testing. How would a rug for a child differ from one for an adult? Color?

My head's spinning on this, but the way I understand it (or do I?) is that yarn that's a non-metallic fiber does not need to be tested. BUT,if the product will be used by children under 13, it needs a CPSIA label attatched to it. In addition, FTC labels need to be attatched to everything made from wool. So a wool item made to be used by a child must have both a CPSIA label and an FTC label.

If anyone understands this better and can tell me that it's easier than I think, you'll be my very, very dearest friend in the world. Forever.

So--Is that right? I make wool felt tooth pillows, which I should be sewing labels into with my name, place and DOM. For now, I can keep the button eyes, but as of next year, I need to have them lead-tested or use felt circles, instead.
I also make tie-dye wool felt applique t-shirts. Does anyone know if tie-dye needs to be tested? Is the t-shirt itself okay?
