CPSIA with kids stuff could only be the beginning...

cause everything could technically kill you!!! (sarcasm)

my jewelry could be made of lead, make your ears fall off...

baked goods could poison you, give you chronic diarrhea

soaps could give you a deadly rash...

a blanket could suffocate you...

seriously. this is a joke. I feel so so soooo badly for all these etsians whose shops are endangered. its BS. Technically almost every store is endangered if such over the top requirements are enforced. we as a whole need to do something about this cause, even if you think this new ruling doesn't effect you IT DOES indirectly and IT MIGHT directly this could be the tip of the iceberg...

I was just thinking about this last night. I understand the concern, but isn't there some sort of medium ground? I mean it seems like they want to shut down a lot of the small businesses that they claim is the backbone of the economy.

One thing that bothers me - why the magical cut off at 12 years old? Do teenagers and adults not matter?

Shouldn't we all be safe?

And what about the myriad of objects children come into contact with that are not toys or clothes... household items, crafting supplies, *gasp* the outdoors!

While it's well intentioned to make big companies accountable for putting toxins into kids toys - this legislation is only going to destroy small businesses and make it HARDER to find safe toys for kids.

__________

There should be middle ground. The laws got so much support because on the surface they seem good- we all want our children protected, right? But as a parent of three I still think they're WAY over the top. The suppliers or importers of the raw supplies should be responsible for these tests, not every single crafter or reseller. That's a LOT of repeated tests on the same thing. Very pointless.

Re: CPSIA with kids stuff could only be the beginning...

here way over the top for ya...this law would require me to test my $3.50 popsicle with a $500 lead test. hahahah They are still adding amendments to the law, so I'm not worried. It just sounds to silly for this to just stay as is, ya know?!

The law is ambiguous at best, so be prepared to consult a lawyer as to how this might impact on your business or your ability to buy handmade products for children.

After you have read all this, & consulted who you can MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD on how you feel on the subject. See the STORQUE article, http://www.etsy.com/storque/craftivism/handmade-childrens-items-unintended-consequences-consumer-pr-... , on where to contact your representatives.

Re: CPSIA with kids stuff could only be the beginning...

I have to say, The CPSIA was a good idea, just terribly implemented. IT's been too long that lead based toys and poisonous food and medicine was coming in America, and far too long that company's have profited from these risky practices.
But of course in general government fashion the law is ever WAY over kill, or not enough.
